DIY Sparkly Sugar Scrub

How about some glitter and glamor for the weekend while nourishing and caring for your skin? Cool, right?

So, I came up with this idea to lure my nieces into exfoliating their skin with a glittering sugar scrub. So, I got to work with preparing one for them and of course, myself! Why not pamper myself and look sparkly this weekend 😉 Not a bad idea, after all, huh?

I wanted to keep the recipe simple, sparkly and floral. So, let’s get started.

Ingredients

Granulated Sugar – ¼ Cup

Pearl Sugar – ¼ Cup

Multicolored Fine Glitter – as needed

Olive Oil – 1 Tbsp.

Coconut Oil – 6 Tbsp.

Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.

Tangerine Essential Oil – 3 Drops

Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil – 2 Drops

Geranium Essential Oil – 2 Drops

Instructions

In a mixing bowl add the sugars, glitter and oils and give a good mix.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Sparkling Sugar for this recipe or prepare your own batch of it. It’s very easy to prepare and you only need carnauba wax and colors to get your best batch of colorful and sparkly granules.  Just melt up the wax and coat the sugar with it. Thrown in color pigments or just go with sparkly white. Since this is not for consumption, you don’t need food grade carnauba wax, though it’s a good idea to use it if you get it.

Pearl Sugar comes in different colors – choose a bunch of different colors or girls colors if it’s girls or blues and browns for boys or men. Or just go crazy with the colors, who cares 😉

You can use any carrier oil of your choice – I chose Coconut Oil as it comes it solidified form making it easy to prepare the scrub – sugar can dissolve in oil especially if you use smaller granule ones.

I chose Citrus Oil and a combination of floral scents, though you can go with what aromas suit you best.

You can use just one type of sugar, or even the normal sugar – this is just an enticing way to give the normal sugar scrub a make over and make it luscious and tempting for the eyes.

You can make stunning colors and sparkling combinations as use it as a gift item for your friends or loved ones. This is a great gift idea and can be tweaked for whomever you’re gifting – remember both men and women need exfoliating. So this recipe isn’t just for girls.

Why Use Sugar Scrubs?

Sugar is a natural exfoliant and when paired with oil, leaves your skin feeling soft, smooth and silky.

Exfoliation is a great way to get rid of dead skin cells, promote better circulation and with regular scrubbing, reduces or eliminates cellulite naturally.

Shelf Life

This lasts good for a while, though go with the shelf life of the ingredients you use too.
