If you’re dabbling with natural options for your makeup requirement, this attractive but natural green brown shade will be one of your favorites.

Just a quick heads up before we delve into the recipe though – the shade of cape aloe or aloe ferox varies from light cream to brown to green brown. The batch I got was green brown, though shades of brown are more common for this ingredient. In that case, just tweak the recipe to add a green pigment like spirulina powder for example, to get the desired hue. After all, DIY is all about experimenting, trying and tweaking right?

Ingredients

Arrowroot Powder – ¼ Tsp.

Aloe Cape Powder – as needed

Green Mica Powder – as needed (optional)

Brown Mica Powder – as needed (optional)

Instructions

Add the arrowroot powder to your mixing bowl.

Add in Aloe Cape Powder and mix well.

If you’re adding Mica powders, add that after mixing up the Aloe Cape Powder & Starch.

Mix thoroughly so there are no streaks or spots but an even and homogenous mixture.

Done!

Transfer to a sterilized jar.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Depending on the shade of the Aloe Cape Powder you can add additional ingredients to get the right shade, if the shade is slightly different from what you’re looking at or use different pigments altogether.

Spirulina, Chrorella and Matcha Tea powders are great options for Green Color, while Cocoa is good for Brown.

Mica is optional and only added if you’re looking for shimmer. This gives subtle shine and shimmer depending on how much you add and isn’t too visible like glitters. So if you’re wanting prominent sparkle go for fine glitter.

For eye shadow the color pigments are more than say blush or other beauty products. You need a concentrated splash of color for it to be visible as eye shadow, unless you’re going for lighter shades. So go with what shade and hue you’re looking to achieve. When in doubt ~ do a patch test to check the shade and get it sorted.

You can add a few drops of Jojoba Oil to make it an eye shadow cake instead of a powder – Just a few drops to get it seated in that eye shadow palette holder. This won’t make it oily just make it easier to apply and it’s still powdery but sticks to your skin easily.

Shelf Life

This is a dry recipe and as such has longer shelf life. However, go with the expiry dates for the ingredients you choose to use.

How to Use the Eye Shadow?

You can use this eye shadow wet or dry. You can also use this as your eyeliner instead of the good old black.
