Like me, if you’re on a mission to get rid of chemical-laden products from your pantry and stock them with goodness, this DIY Sunscreeen cum Foundation is sure to make you happy.

Foundation is one of the go-to products for many. It serves a lot of purposes, the most common being a perfect or blemish-free clear canvas. Some just apply a good foundation to hide imperfection and finish off with a dusting powder and makeup is all done! They’re the lucky ones who don’t need much as they’re naturally beautiful.

However, most of us have marks or scars we’d like to cover up, but in most cases, a good foundation covers the imperfections really good. As long as the foundation works for your skin it doubles up as a concealer in most cases. However, what we use depends on the skin we’re blessed with and also the occasion – sometimes, we like to feel extra special and an outing with dazzling makeup isn’t wrong.

This way or that, sunscreen and foundations are part of most of our makeup kit. So, I wanted something that’ll combine both and give a good finish. Let’s take a look how it fares, shall we?

Ingredients

Sunflower Seed Oil – 1.5 Oz
Cocoa Butter – 15 Gms.
Shea Butter – 30 Gms.
Beeswax – 15 Gms.
Cocoa Powder – as needed
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.
Titanium DiOxide – 15 Gms.

Instructions

Add the Butters, Wax & Oils to your double boiler.

Once melted remove from heat.

Stir in the Zinc Oxide and whisk to combine.

Now, add in Cocoa Powder – this should be added according to your skin tone and preference. Add more for a darker foundation and less for a lighter foundation. Once you get the right shade let the mixture cool down.

If there’s any settling at the bottom of the bowl, leave it and scoop out the rest into a sterilized jar.

Done!

How to Use the Foundation?

This foundation has an easy to apply texture and lasts for the whole day. So you won’t need reapplication in most cases.

Take a small dollop of the foundation and apply on your skin, gently massaging it in with your fingers as you go.

You can use a sponge to make the application easier, though fingers work just fine.

Finish off with a dusting of face powder.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

The sunscreen benefits come from the Titanium DiOxide mostly, as does the coverage. You can substitute it with Zinc Oxide too.

You can also use Cinnamon to get a richer color, though don’t if you have sensitive skin.

If you’re acne-prone, substitute Cocoa Butter with Shea Butter and reduce Beeswax a little.

You can use Kaolin Clay instead of Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide if you don’t need coverage or sun protection. Though the texture and properties are different and it won’t double up as a concealer like when using the mineral ingredients, it might serve as a foundation.

Shelf Life

Since we don’t add any water-based ingredients this holds well for months.
