Body butters are a great way to pamper and care for your skin. The good thing about this luscious goodness is that it is very versatile.

You can make it rich or light, for pampering or caring, you can do a lot of different things with it and tweak for different purposes. This is a very simple and easy recipe that is ideal for beginners to get started with, though feel free to tweak it to suit your tastes.

Ingredients

Shea Butter – ½ Cup

Jojoba Oil – ½ Cup

Peppermint Essential Oil – 25 Drops

Cypress Essential Oil – 7 Drops

Instructions

Melt the Shea Butter in your double boiler

When fully melted remove from heat and add Jojoba Oil.

Refrigerate for a few minutes and once the mixture turns slightly opaque but not fully solidified remove from the refrigerator.

Now, whip the ingredients on medium-high while slowly adding the essential oils.

The mixture should be nice and fluffy – continue whipping till it is whipped.

Done!

Transfer to a sterilized container.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

I have used Shea Butter as it is more pliable and suitable for all skin types. You can use any butter according to your choice or skin requirement – mango butter, kokum butter, cupacu butter, cocoa butter, illipe butter, etc.

I have used Jojoba Oil as it is easy to absorb into the skin, closest to our skin sebum and suitable for all skin types. You can use any carrier oil instead of Jojoba Oil to suit your taste or requirements – Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Apricot Oil, Avocado Oil, Argan Oil, etc.

I have used a combination of Peppermint and Cypress Essential Oils in this recipe – not only is peppermint refreshing, it is also a good way to soothe your aches and pains. Cypress is a stress-reliever and also, pain reliever. In short, this combination keeps you upbeat but without aches and pains. So, you can choose whatever combination of essential oils that work for you, or just choose one essential oil – whatever you prefer. You can choose any essential oil here that you like, or one that suits your needs and requirements.

You can also add a few drops of Vitamin E Oil to this recipe.

How to Use the Butter?

Nothing special or complicated. Take a small dollop of this butter and massage into your skin gently. Done! It’s a good idea to apply this after cleansing your skin.

Shelf Life

We have not added any hydrosols to this recipe. So it lasts good – check the expiry dates of the ingredients and go with. I prepare batches every few months and use it. This doesn’t need refrigeration either – just make sure to use clean hands or dry spoon while scooping it out. I prefer using a spoon to scoop out the butter.
