DIY Anti-Acne Mask

Acne is a problem that’s common for men and women alike. Excess sebum production is considered as an important trigger for acne.

This face mask can help prevent acne when used regularly. It is natural, easy and the ingredients are readily available in most kitchens. Let’s take a look at the recipe.

Ingredients

Oatmeal – 4 Tbsp.

Honey – 1 Tsp.

Onion – 1

Instructions

Bring 30 ml of water to a boil.

Add the oatmeal to a bowl and pour this boiling water over it.

Cover the bowl letting the oatmeal steep for about 5 – 7 minutes.

In the interim, peel an onion and puree it.

Add the onion and honey to the oatmeal and stir it.

If the consistency is too thick, add honey to make it pliable.

Done!

How to use the Mask?

While the mask is still warm apply it on your face.

Let it sit for 15 minutes, or so.

When the mask is hardened, remove using a warm and wet cloth.

Follow-up with a toner and moisturizer.

Frequency

You can use this mask once a week to keep acne and other skin issues at bay.

Oatmeal is a mild cleanser due to the saponin content and is suitable for inflamed, sensitive or dry skin. It is soothing, doesn’t irritate the skin and cleanses the skin. Onions are rich in vitamins and can prevent breakouts and nourish the skin. It is antibacterial, antiseptic and rich in anti-inflammatory agents so it can keep breakouts at bay. They also prevent and lighten scars and reduce skin blemishes.

Honey is a gentle cleanser, lightens skin and also nourishes your skin. It is highly nutritious and can do a world of good for your skin. Since you can’t apply a lot of oil, being a humectant, Honey can keep your skin hydrated, as well.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can add a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil to the recipe for a soothing and relaxing effect.

If the mask is runny you can add a dash of Orange Peel powder.

Though you can also add Turmeric powder, many don’t like the tingling sensation that Turmeric is known for. Oh and the yellow sheen it leaves behind.
