There are different ways to prepare rose water. But the proper Rose Hydrosol method gives you a longer lasting Rose Water. So, let’s get started shall we?

We’re going to learn the more proper way this time around, though we will look at the other make-do options soon.

Ingredients

Rose Petals

Water

Instructions

Collect fresh Roses – Edwards Rose or Damascus Rose (Botanical Name) works best for Rose Water. If you don’t get it you can use any rose.

Clean the Roses and remove the petals from the flowers. Get rid of any rotten or dried or bug-infested petals.

Wash them and pat dry using a kitchen towel.

Place a wide and heavy bottomed pan on your stove. Don’t light it at this stage.

Now, place a smaller bowl (inverted) with a good height in the center of the pan.

Now, add the petals around the smaller bowl you have placed.

When the petals are added, make sure nothing is covering the surface of the smaller bowl and that they’re along the sides.

Now, place another bowl on top the bowl in the center.

Pour water to cover the petals.

Now, close the pan with a lid –a glass lid works best as you can see inside. Keep the glass lid inverted – this way you will have some space on the lid. We need this space.

Place a few ice-cubes on the lid – if the lid has a steam-vent keep them away from the vent.

Light the stove and keep it on medium flame – can keep it on high flame initially and then lower it to medium once the water is heated.

Let the flame do it’s job – you will see there is a water collected on the bowl you placed on top.

The water evaporates and then condenses into the bowl. You can add more water or rose petals if needed.

When the petals fully change color you’re done.

Remove the water that’s collected to a sterilized bowl.

Done!
