We’ve already seen about Dry Skin and how Ayurveda deals with skin related issues, including Dry Skin.

As promised here’s the next part with home remedies and simple tips that will help with Dry Skin.

Easy Emollient

Heat up cow’s milk on simmer and let it form the cream layer on top. Make sure it is whole milk – it’s easier when it is whole milk for the cream layer to form and also wholesome milk retains the healing properties.

Remove the layer and set aside to cool down. Once it cools down add a few drops of lemon juice to it. Alternatively (if you’re sensitive to lemon juice, or have sensitive skin that gets irritated with lemon juice), you can use Rose Water.

Mash the layer along with the lemon juice using a spoon to form a paste. Apply this to dry skin and let it sit for 25 minutes at least, to an hour or two. Rinse off. Not only does this help with dry skin, it is also very nourishing and makes your skin radiant and supple.

Hydrate

Do you know dry skin is often due to lack of hydration and moisture? Check how much water you consume during the day, also diuretics like coffee – they drain your body of water. It’s important to rehydrate if you consume more coffee for some reason. If it’s a habit try to taper it down to 1 – 2 glasses a day.

Do you eat drying foods? Do you hydrate adequately after? If your food is rich in flour-based food – roti, breads, cakes, etc. you need more water. Warm and spiced foods like stews are ideal for dry skin.

Adding fat (clarified butter) to your food can help curb dryness. A spoon of ghee to your food, using ghee to cook your food or other saturated fats like Hemp Oil can help. Do you know nuts are a great addition to your diet for dry skin? Soak them for a few hours in water before you consume them – breaks down the phyto-nutrients and makes them easier to digest.

Almond

You can either make almond meal, store it and use it as needed or prepare it every time you need it – fresh.

For the almond meal, pulse a few almonds in your mixer, food processor, coffee grinder for a few seconds. Be sire to stop every few seconds to get powder instead of almond butter! Store the almond meal in your refrigerator and use as needed – lasts for 2 – 3 weeks. When needed, take a spoon of the almond meal and add some warm water to make a paste. Apply it to your face or dry skin and rinse off with warm water after a minute or two.

Alternatively, you can soak a few almonds and grind it to a paste and use as needed. You can also use this mixture to scrub dry elbows or knees, face and get rid of dry skin cells. You can leave it on your skin for up to 25 minutes before rinsing off – nourishing, soothing and moisturizing. It’s also a great way to curb ageing skin signs with regular use.
