With a hectic lifestyle, long days and an active social life, perfumes are part and parcel of our stash. Do you know you can prepare your own perfume with few ingredients and zero toxins?

Perfumes and deodorants come loaded with chemicals and toxins that are harmful to our skin and health. Besides, most perfumes are alcohol based and are drying. This perfume doesn’t use harsh ingredients and is alcohol free. Let’s take a look at the recipe.

Ingredients

Frankincense Essential Oil – 7 Drops

Rose Geranium Essential Oil – 7 Drops

Vanilla Essential Oil – 3 Drops

Vetiver Essential Oil – 7 Drops

Neroli Essential Oil – 4 Drops

Argan Oil – 3 Oz.

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a sterilized perfume dispenser.

Shake gently to combine.

Let it sit for seven days before use. However, if you are strapped for time give it two days at least.

Done!

How to Use the Perfume?

Apply the perfume to pulse points.

If you are using this on a roll-on dispenser you can also apply it to your underarms.

Since this oil-based it is best to apply this on your skin.

You can re-apply if needed during the day.

You can also use this in your diffuser for special occasions to refresh and scent your surroundings.

Shelf Life

This perfume holds for a few months. Go with the shelf life of the ingredients added to the recipe and their remaining shelf life to get a handle on how long you can use it. Depending on the duration, prepare larger or smaller batches.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use the exotic Myrrh essential oil, or other essential oils like Cedarwood, Patchouli, Musk, Sweet Marjoram, Lavender, etc.

You can use any carrier oil instead of Argan Oil like Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Oil, Sunflower Oil, etc.

You can use Witch Hazel as a base if you don’t want to use oil as your base.

Light oils like Apricot Oil can be used as a base for this recipe.

If you are using alcohol, go with Denatured Alcohol, Rubbing Alcohol, or Vodka.

You can also add manly essential oils to make a special perfume for your main with Cinnamon, Musk, Cedarwood, Sweet Marjoram, etc.

As always, the key to DIY recipes that are keepers turn out to be the ones where you try out different variations, variants, tweak and see what you like best or suit you best. The trying is interesting and you might learn new combinations and recipes that you might end up loving.

I have heard many say there should be the right ratio of top, middle and base notes but many suggest the ratio isn’t restricted or fixed. It is rather what the wearer wants – some like strong perfumes, some like mild, some like lasting, so based on that the ratio will differ.
