With every other state, city and countries going under lockdown, if they’re not already under lockdown, there are times when you can’t buy essentials on time. It could be the lack of access, dwindling stocks or restrictions that make it difficult to pick up or get them delivered. Here’s a quick ‘n easy sanitizer recipe that you can try.

A spray is always easier to use than a gel, so here we are with the spray recipe as promised. This is the recipe WHO recommends and is quite easy to prepare, too.

Ingredeints

Hydrogen Peroxide – 1 Tsp.

Glycerin – 1 Tbsp.

Distilled Water – 80 Ml

Isopropyl Alcohol – 350 Ml

Instructions

Take a sterilized glass spritzer.

In a mixing bowl add a spoon of hydrogen peroxide and add distilled water to it. Mix well.

Add the alcohol to the spritzer, along with glycerin.

Now, slowly pour in the hydrogen peroxide mixture and shake gently.

Done!

Why These Ingredients?

We already shared a sanitizing gel recipe earlier, and it does get the job if you’re wondering. So, this recipe is for those who prefer spray over gel, for those who don’t like aloe or are allergic to it, etc.

This recipe really evaporates in no time and doesn’t leave the slight moist or sticky feel for a few seconds like aloe does. This is the recipe WHO recommends and is considered more potent.

That aside, now let’s talk about the ingredients and the ratios that make this work.

The idea I that alcohol is drying and you need a moisturizer / humectant to prevent that. When you’re going to use the sanitizer multiple times a day, this is even more important. So we need at least one tablespoon of Glycerin, but based on your requirements you can slightly increase or decrease it.

Alcohol is a sterilizing aid and widely used in hospitals for this purpose. However, it is drying. You need 3 parts of alcohol for one part of water in this recipe for maximum efficacy.

If you’re using rubbing alcohol as some prefer that because it is less drying than Isopropyl Alcohol, or just because it is usually available at most homes, reduce the quantity of water – this is because the alcohol percentage in rubbing alcohol is slightly lesser.

If you don’t get distilled water, or can’t buy it, just use boiled and cooled water – just make sure to boil it well and cool it down. If you don’t boil the water and use it right off the tap and it isn’t sterile enough, it can reduce the shelf life of the recipe.

 How to Use the Spray?

Just spray enough on your skin and rub it across the surface you’re sterilizing.

Alternatively, you can spray it on a paper towel and use this as your wet sanitizing wipe 😉 This is handy and only possible when you use a spray, isn’t it?

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can add a dash of Essential Oil for added aroma and benefits. Eucalyptus Oil is a great choice, but those don’t prefer the balmy smell, use any aroma you like or go wild and use food flavors!

My husband likes Peach or Green Apple aroma, nephews and nieces love Cotton Candy or Bubble Gum. Anything to get them turn to the healthier DIY side is worth it, till they begin to like the effects on their skin and pockets. What do you say?
