At a time when sanitizer is the need of the hour, we can’t really stock a lot without knowing when or how long we will need it, or if we can or not buy from outside. A simpler solution is to prepare your own sanitizer and use it – better, cost-effective and works well.

There are also recipes given by WHO for those who don’t like Aloe and we’re going to see those too in the coming days. Off to the recipe now.

Ingredients

Isopropyl Alcohol – ¾ Cup

Aloe Vera Gel – ¼ Cup

Tea Tree Oil – 16 Drops

Lavender Essential Oil – 7 Drops

Instructions

Mix together the Alcohol and Aloe Vera Gel along with the essential oils. Done!

Yes, it’s that simple and really works. You don’t have to spend a lot to buy those sanitizers off the shelves when this works perfectly fine without harmful ingredients and the Aloe keeps your skin from drying that comes with using alcohol.

Why These Ingredients?

We’ve used Vodka for a lot of recipes that call for alcohol. So why not use it here? If you are wondering about that, here’s the answer for you. WHO recommends 99% alcohol for disinfecting purposes. So, Vodka or other alcoholic drinks won’t cut it. That’s why we’re going to Ispropyl Alcohol for this recipe.

You need at least 3 parts of alcohol and the Aloe Vera Gel brings it’s own benefits to the recipe. That it tackles the dryness that alcohol usage brings on is a bonus.

I have chosen Tea Tree Oil along with Lavender Essential Oil for this recipe. However, you have scores of other options too including Lemon Essential Oil, Cinnamon Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, Ravensara Essential Oil, etc.

Alternatively, you can also use you favorite blend if you have any, or Thieves blend.

Depending on what blend or oil(s) you go with, choose the ratio as some EOs are strong like Cinnamon Essential Oil.

You can use organic store bought aloe  vera gel or prepare one yourself by adding Vitamin  & E to get longer shelf life.

Shelf Life

If you are using this from a sanitizer dispenser this will last good for weeks. You should make sure to not touch the gel to remove it from the bottle to extend the shelf life of this recipe.

How to Use the Sanitizing Gel?

Just apply on your hands or skin and run it in covering areas needed. This disappears or evaporates quickly. However, if you are planning to cook or use fire, make sure to rinse off your hands, as this is highly inflammable.

Many of us don’t remember that alcohol is highly flammable and go handle the stove after using sanitizer. If you weren’t affected before it’s good but continue to see your good luck persists!

As always, feel free to write to us for any queries or requests. As promised we will be adding more recipes and especially for those who don’t like how Aloe feels on your skin, we will be adding recipes without aloe shortly. So, stay tuned.
