With a combination or oily skin, finding the right recipe for beauty products is tricky and there’s always a need to keep changing and reworking on the recipe. We all know clay works best for oily or combination skin.

Combination skin can be a little tricky because it can be sensitive in some zone, in that case choose the clay with care. Kaolin Clay works best for sensitive skin. Many say Bentonite Works but it can leave skin high and dry and it pulls out maximum impurities and oil from your skin. So stick with Kaolin Clay or test Bentonite Clay before deciding. French Green Clay is another great choice for sensitive or easily inflamed skin – again, test it out.

On the other hand, most clays work for oily – acne prone skin. Bentonite is considered best for oily and acne prone skin due to the detoxing abilities. However, Sea Clay, French Green Clay, Brazilian Clay, Green Zeolite Clay, Moroccan Red Clay, Fuller’s Earth Clay and Rhassoul Clay are ideal for oily or acne-prone skin. Kaolin Clay is a gentle yet good way to detoxify your skin and get rid of excess oil without leaving your skin dry or irritated. So, if you have combination but acne-prone skin, consider Kaolin clay if other clays leave parts of your skin irritated.

The main problem with store-bought stuff is the chemicals and toxins that go with it – no matter what brand you buy or how much you pay for it. Some chemicals or toxins are still sneaked in. If you want unadulterated, natural and pure stuff – make it yourself. Sad but true. In most cases you don’t’ get fully organic or natural stuff unless you search really hard and go through the ingredients thoroughly.

This is a very simple clay blush and you can tweak it to suit your requirements and needs. I like the hint of Purple in this Blush, but do what works best for your skin tone. Let’s take a look at the recipe first and then talk about tweaks and benefits. Shall we get started?

Ingredients

Pink Kaolin Clay – 1 Tsp.

Blue Berry Powder – As Needed

Hibiscus Powder – As Needed

Instructions

Add Pink kaolin Clay to a mixing bowl.

Add in the Blueberry & Hibiscus Powders – usually I add ½ the quantity of Pink Kaolin Clay – so if it is 1 spoon, it would be ¼ spoon each give or take, depending on the hue you need and the batch you’ve bought.

Mix to combine.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and give it a gentle shake.

Done!

Shelf Life

If you don’t use your hands to remove the blush this should keep forever, though you can use it for about three – six months if you’re using your hands in them – and if the ingredients shelf life last that long. In other words, for ingredients other than clay – check their shelf life and go based on that.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Remember to buy organic supplies for your makeup recipes. The shade can vary based on the batch, location and other factors. So add more or less according to the shade you’re getting.

You can also use Alkanet Root Powder to get a Purple Hint.

You can use Purple Brazilian Clay if you can get your hands on it for this recipe. This way you can keep it all clay and the recipe will last forever.

For a true Purple you can also combine Red & Blue Clays. Blue Clays are hard to find but they’re around and rich in minerals. Then you can throw in Pink Clay with it.
