Do you know hemp oil is extremely nourishing for the skin? It’s light greenish in color and has a nutty flavor. It can be used in preparing natural skin care products.

Derived from Cannabis Sativa plant, it is important to understand the distinctions between the different variations and what’s acceptable for use. Both hemp and marijuana come from the same plant but different variants. Here we are using the oil derived from Cannabis Sativa variant.

Let’s learn how to make the lip balm before we go into the benefits on the ingredients.

Ingredients

Hemp Oil – ¼ Cup

Cocoa Butter – ¼ Cup

Beeswax – ¼ Cup

Shea Butter – ¼ Cup

Honey – 1 Tbsp.

Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.

Sweet Almond Oil – ¼ Cup

Lavender Extract – a few drops

Instructions

Melt the butters and wax in your double boiler.

Once the butters and wax melts remove from heat.

Add in hemp oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E oil, Honey and food flavor (if using).

Mix well to combine and transfer to lip balm dispensers.

**If the honey and oils doesn’t mix use a whisk to mix thoroughly before transferring to dispensers.

Shelf Life

This lip balm can last 3 months in room temperature, if not more. However, prepare smaller batches if you’re preparing only for personal use. This is for a larger batch including extending family and friends for gifting season.

This recipe is for 15+ lip balm jars or lip balm dispensers.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

I like my lip balm fairly softer and not too hard that it takes ages to melt enough when applying on my lips. However, you can alter the oil – butter – wax ratios based on your preference.

You can use only hemp oil along with butters and wax if you prefer.

You can use any carrier oil along with or instead of hemp oil, or in place of sweet almond oil.

You can use any skin butter or combine more than one of them for this recipe. There’s avocado butter, illepe butter, mango butter, kokum butter, cupacu butter, etc.

You can use any food flavor or skip it altogether. I usually use natural food grade extracts like Lavender, Vanilla, Rose, etc. They are natural, edible and don’t contain harmful or artificial essences.

You can also use therapeutic grade essential oil in this recipe for aroma or their benefits.

Why These Ingredients?

Hemp oil is nutrient rich cannabis oil that contains the entire spectrum of amino acids, a range of proteins and minerals along with essential fatty acids. It is easily absorbed by the skin and has restorative and regenerative properties. It forms a protective layer on the skin and prevents moisture from escaping. It is touted as an effective anti-ageing ingredient. It is hydrating and regulates skin’s oil levels. It is anti-inflammatory and suitable for all skin types but especially beneficial for those with combination or acne-prone skin.
