Women and flowers always go together. How would you like a floral scented face and body powder?
I love that this recipe is versatile and mild. The recipe as is, can be used for your baby girl too. It’s that good. With the versatility it offers you can tweak it to suit your preferences or modify it and gift it to your man, too! Without further ado let’s get to the recipe first.
Ingredients
Arrowroot Powder – 1 Cups
Kaolin Clay – ½ Cup
Finely Powdered Petals / Buds – ½ Cup
Lavender Essential Oil – as needed (Optional)
Instructions
You can use any petals / flower buds. I have used Rose Petals, Lavender Buds & Sunflower Petals. However, only use Lavender if using it for babies. Grind this to a fine powder using your spice or coffee grinder – if you don’t have both, use your mixer or blender. Spice or coffee grinder can powder it finer. Transfer it to a mixing bowl.
Add the Arrowroot Powder and Kaolin Clay to it. Mix to combine.
You can transfer the mixture to a sterilized sprinkler at this stage (if not using essential oil).
If you’re using essential oil add the required quantity – you can add a few drops to a tablespoon depending on your preference – the aroma and the intensity preference, which can vary with the essential oil brands. Take a small quantity of the powder and add the essential oil to it and once mixed well, add that to the mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Alternatively, you can run it in your blender for a few seconds to combine.
Transfer to a sterilized sprinkler.
Done!
Tips
If you’re considering Rose, Edward Rose has the best aroma and can be used for babies depending on their age. However, any rose works good. Edward Rose have a light pink hue, though Roses come in different colors and have similar aroma. They can also be used but they might affect the resulting shade of the powder. So choose accordingly.
Lavender buds when dry have a light graying – lilac shade and don’t alter the powder’s shade for most. However, you can go based on the resulting powder.
Sunflowers have a light yellow hue that doesn’t affect the shade much however you can go with neutral shades like Gardenia.
The key to using flowers in your recipe is to get the ratio right and choose them according to your skin tone.
If you are tweaking it to give it to your man, you can combine Sunflower Petals with Citrus Peels and or Citrus Essential Oils. Alternatively, you can go with manly fragrances like Cedarwoord, Pine, Cinnamon, etc. All these combine well with Citrus Essential Oil and together can give a fresh and manly aroma.
The idea to get it right is to try out different variations people! It’s that simple and exciting at the same time.
You can also use floral essential oils instead of flower buds or petals to keep color neutral.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can use Cornstarch along with or instead of Arrowroot Powder.
You can skip White Clay if you prefer or if you’re doubtful.
You can also use Chamomile Petals to soothe your skin, Arnica petals to accelerate healing, Calendula petals to calm irritated skin or curb acne, etc.
Shelf Life
It lasts long but it’s a good idea to use it within a year – the aroma begins to fade after that in my opinion. Prepare larger or smaller batches according to your requirement.
