DIY Apple Pie Lip Balm

Apple Pies and Christmas go hand in hand. So one of the few festive season spice mixes we make is Apple Pie and here’s a lip balm that you can do to make use of the left over spice.

Apple Pie is an all-time favorite though it’s a signature Christmas Special and one of the many recipes that are highlights of festive season. I absolutely love Pineapple & Apple Pie like the next person, but the Apple Pie is reserved for Christmas ☺ Isn’t it?

Pumpkin Spice, Gingerbread Spice, Apple Pie Mix and Christmas Spice all having Cinnamon and sometimes Vanilla make the festive season aromatic. We’re going to use Cinnamon & Apple to spice up our Lip Balm. Are you ready?

Ingredients

Cocoa Butter – 2 Tsp.
Beeswax – 1 Tsp.
Sweet Almond Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Olive Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.
Apple Flavored Oil – 5 Drops

Vanilla Flavored Oil – 3 Drops
Nutmeg Flavored Oil – 2 Drops

When melted remove from heat and add in the oils one after the other.

Stir to combine and pour into sterilized Lip Balm Dispensers or Pots.

Let it set.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

I have used flavored oils here – you can also use Essential Oils, or Essences, per your preference. Make sure you use organic and food grade ingredients. You can also use Apple Pie Spice Drops instead of adding them separately.

If you prefer other flavors you can use those instead of Apple Pie Spice for this recipe.

Want some tint to your balms? You can do that too – you can use food colors, natural coloring pigments like beets, flowers & berries or mineral pigments like Mica for shimmer or Iron Oxides for matte coloring. Yes, there’s quite a long list of options to pick from 😉

You can substitute Vitamin E Oil for another Vitamin E rich carrier oil like Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, etc.

I have added Beeswax to combat the harsh weather conditions of the current season, though other times just butter and wax should do for most – go with what ratios work best for you. Some like their lip balm harder while some like softer consistency.

You can pick and choose ingredients you like and tweak with the ingredients listed above with suitable alternatives or what’s available in your home. It works best when prepared with local ingredients.

Shelf Life

This lasts a few months but depends on the other ingredients you add too – go with the shelf like of the ingredients you add. The one with shortest shelf life will be your scale.
