DIY Anti-Acne Gel

Most of us are ready to do anything if it means we can get rid of acne and be free of it. Right?

I once tried anti-acne gel with very good results for my acne. Due to my sensitive skin and sebum imbalance getting a solution for my acne was tricky. This is one of the recipes that worked without irritating my skin, worsening the oil imbalance and controls acne real good.

The recipe as such is simple and involves more than one step, but it is really good. Try it and let us know how you liked it.

Ingredients

Gelatin – 1 Tsp.
Arnica Flowers – a few
Calendula Flowers – a few
Cinnamon Sticks – a few
Clove – a few
Nutmeg – a pinch

Instructions

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add cinnamon sticks and cloves – I used three 1” pieces of Cinnamon, a generous pinch of nutmeg and 5 Cloves.

After boiling for a bit the water changes color – it is infused with the cinnamon, nutmeg and clove essence.

Switch off the flame and add the arnica and calendula flowers to the water – you can slightly crush the petals and add too.

Let it sit for 20 minutes at least.

Filter this water and add a spoon of Gelatin – if the water isn’t warm, you can warm it slightly.

Mix to dissolve and let it set.

Whisk to remove any lumps and transfer to a sterilized jar.

Voila!

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can also use Clove Oil and Cinnamon Essential Oil instead of the concoction. If you are using the oils, make sure to add a drop of two and go from there after doing a patch test.

You can also use Tea Tree Oil for this recipe.

If you are using essential oils, you can use a few spoons of Vodka or Denatured Alcohol for helping with incorporation of the oils to the water – it helps albeit not fully 😉 Glycerin is another option.

If you don’t prefer Gelatin, you can use Aloe Vera Gel for this recipe. For those who don’t want to use Aloe Vera, this recipe uses Gelatin.

Remember, Arnica and Calendula are great aids for keeping acne at bay. So, if you don’t want to add Clove, Cinnamon and Nutmeg or if they irritate your skin even in lesser quantities, you can do the recipe without using those. Or, you can just add Nutmeg and skip Cinnamon and Clove. You can add an essential oil for aroma in that case.

How to Use the Gel?

Take a small dollop and massage into the skin. You can use it once or twice daily.
