So, we saw how to prepare coconut cream or coco-yogurt recently. This is another variation of the coconut cream where curdling isn’t involved.
There are two ways to take coconut cream without curdling and I would go on to say this is coconut cream, unlike the last where I said it is more of Yogurt ☺ There is another method and the resulting cream is a richer variation and I would recommend it only for those with dry or mature skin and don’t have acne problems or oily skin.
Both methods are very simple; we’ll talk about the first one that’s lighter and the next method in the coming days. So, let’s start without further ado.

You can use both fresh and dried coconuts and fresh coconuts are always better.
However, if you only have access to dry coconuts, they’re still good. So, don’t worry.
If you are using fresh coconuts, scrape the coconut(s) and set aside. You can pour water and let it sit for a few minutes – however, I have never needed this step even when I use ripe / mature coconuts.
Add the scraped coconut to your mixer and add enough water (just enough) and grind to fine paste.
Sieve it to get the coconut milk.
Repeat the process once more with lesser water – you can skip this if you don’t want to add the lighter milk and can use it in your cooking or otherwise.
Refrigerate the coconut milk for about 3 – 4 hours.
Remove from the fridge and you will see a thick layer on top.
Gently remove the thick layer using a spatula and transfer it to mixing bowl or a sterilized jar.
You can use the remaining water for your recipes, as a rinse, as a cleanser, etc. The creamy layer you took out separately is your coconut cream.
Done!
If you’re using dry coconut – soak the coconut flakes in warm water for 15 minutes.
Then grind and follow the same steps as the fresh coconut. The only difference is the soaking, which is mandatory to get most of the milk from the coconut.
Shelf Life
I would recommend using this cream at the earliest. I have noticed the texture, consistency and even smell of coconut milk or cream changing even with refrigeration. I usually freeze it after diving it for daily usage and prepare fresh batches every other day or so.
How to Use the Coconut Cream?
This is a very good moisturizer, makeup remover and mild cleanser, which will also leave your skin radiant and bright. Regular use can prevent ageing skin signs or curb existing ones and your skin becomes soft and supple.
Massage this cream to your skin in upward circular strokes and rinse off after 15 minutes.
You can also leave this overnight without rinsing – it forms a protective layer but isn’t usually sticky or greasy. It is a matter of preference. It is an ideal night cream, but you can rinse off after 20 minutes if you’re more comfortable that way.
This is suitable for most skin types, but if you notice flare-up of acne you can skip it. Since this is essentially coconut milk, it doesn’t aggravate acne or oily usually. But the results can vary with everyone, so do a patch test and take it from there.
