Many of you wanted us to add a Mineral Veil. We have already done it once before, but this one is even more simpler.

Mineral Veil can also be used as a Finishing Powder and as such, is fairly transparent or translucent. We are going to look at the recipe first and then move to tweaking it.

Ingredients

Kaolin Clay – 1 Tsp.
Red Moroccan Clay – ¼ Tsp.
While or Silver Mica – as needed (Optional)
Arrowroot Powder – 1 Tbsp.

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients and mix to combine.

Done!

Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

The color or hue of the recipe should be closer to your skin tone, though it can also be transparent / translucent. So, I have added a dash of Moroccan Red Clay, though you can also use Bentonite Clay, Fuller’s Earth, French Clay, etc.

The ratio given here is a rough estimate; the right ratio would be what works best for. So, go with a ratio you are comfortable with. If you use clays like bentonite, add lesser than say kaolin Clay.

You can also use Rice Powder or even Corn Starch instead of Arrowroot Powder.

Mica add shimmer to the recipe, so unless you like it and don’t have oily skin, it works. Those with oily skin or those who don’t prefer shimmer can skip it. While it doesn’t affect those with oily skin, the shimmer is said to make the skin look oilier.

Why These Ingredients?

Unlike other starches, Arrowroot is gentle on your skin and ideal as finishing powder. It also gets rid of oil but doesn’t leave your skin dry like other starches. It is suitable even if you have sensitive skin as is soothing and gentle on your skin.

Kaolin is considered as gentle clay and used in a lot of skin care and makeup products. It offers coverage and ideal for acne-prone skin though even those with sensitive skin can use it.

Mica adds some shimmer and helps the powder stay on your skin longer. You can use any mica and since you only add a little bit, it shouldn’t affect you. Even the shimmer is considered OK by many of my friends with oily skin, as the shimmer is really mild unlike glitter powders.

The Red Moroccan Clay adds a hue to the recipe but it is optional. You can also add iron oxide pigments if you would use like a powder instead of a veil. This is a very simple and easy recipe that hardly takes time or energy to prepare. In most cases, you have the ingredients at home – especially if you are DIYing already.
