DIY Skin Whitening Scrub

Skin Whitening isn’t new and even Cleopatra is said to have used Milk to make her skin radiant.

Now, we all know that milk not only makes skin soft and radiant, it also lightens skin. So, it isn’t really surprising that she used that and many other natural skincare aids to maintain the flawless beauty she’s known for.

While it is easier to grab something off the shelves and use, it is not always effective or safe for your skin. Do you know many suffer because they use wrong skin care products for their skin type? Then, there’s the problem of the ingredients – most companies use chemicals and toxins that are not only difficult to read but also not good for you.

This scrub is really easy to prepare and takes a few minutes. Most of the ingredients are readily available and the scrub is not only effective but also safe for your skin. Ready for the recipe?

Ingredients

Sugar – 4 Tbsp.

Orange Juice – 6 Tsp.

Honey – 6 Tsp.

Grapeseed Oil – 4 Tsps.

Parsley Juice – 1 Tsp.

Galbanum Essential Oil – 3 Drops

Rose Essential Oil – 3 Drops

Neroli Essential Oil – 3 Drops

Cedar Essential Oil – 3

Sandalwood Essential Oil – 4 Drops

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and mix well.

Add Sugar or Orange Juice or Parsely Juice to adjust your consistency, or quantity and increase other ingredients proportionately.

Once you get the desired scrub consistency, you’re done.

How to Use the Recipe?

This is not just a face scrub, you can use it anywhere on your skin. Gently massage the scrub on your skin using circular motions. Massage every area for a few seconds and then let the scrub sit on your skin for about 7 minutes. Wash off and moisturize once you pat your skin dry.

Remember to use this scrub in the evening or at night, as this leaves your skin sensitive to sun for a while. So evenings or night is best if you have to step out during the day.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Some say Lemon Juice works better for lightening than Orange Juice though I haven’t seen much of difference between these two. I also like how Orange works even for those with sensitive skin like me, unlike lemon that can leave my skin reddish at times.

You can also use a dash each of Chickpea Flour & Turmeric Powder though it is optional. Turmeric slightly burns when applied, so use less if your skin is sensitive.

You can add Oatmeal or Rice Powder if the consistency is runny – they’re both good for scrubbing and also give you radiant skin.

You can choose the essential oils according to their availability and preference – any lightening oils and essential oils are good.

Honey keeps dryness at bay and leaves your skin soothed – making this scrub suitable for those with sensitive skin too. However, you can add a dash of Yogurt if you find this scrub irritates your skin. Alternatively you can also follow up with a rice water rinse to soothe your skin.

Why These Ingredients?

All these ingredients are tried and tested, known for their lightening properties and extremely effective. You should see visible days in a week or two after using this regularly.

This basic recipe calls for a few tried and true ingredients that help exfoliate, soften, whiten, and brighten the skin. You can customize it however you like too since there are a number of interchangeable natural ingredients you can use to lighten skin tone. You can use this scrub as is or add essential oils, herbs, or fancy oils to make it your own unique blend.
