DIY Silk Powder

Did you love the way silk powder made your skin feel soft and silky? However, not many are good anymore and like every other beauty product comes loaded with chemicals.

Silk Powder is probably one of the most cherished possessions I had when young and it was a gift from one of my uncles who traveled a lot. I have tried different variations of the powders but never got anything close to it.

I got a gift from one of my friends recently and she said it was the silk powder I was hunting for. I hounded her for the recipe and tried it myself with good results. So, here’s the recipe for you!

There are more ways to do this and as such I got two or three variants from her. So, I would share them as we go and for now, let’s take a look at this recipe that’s a tad complicated but works really well.

Ingredients

Kokum Butter – 1 Tsp.
Arrowroot Powder – 2 Tbsp.
Silk Peptides – ½ Tsp.
Kaolin Clay – 2 Tbsp.
Vanilla Extract – a few drops (Optional)

Instructions

In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients except Kokum Butter.

Mix well.

Freeze the Kokum Butter if needed and break it into smaller bits.

Add it to your spice grinder or blender along with the mixture and Vanilla Extract.

Whip for few seconds to combine all the ingredients.

Done!

Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

I like Kokum Butter for more reasons than one – easily available at my place, anti-ageing, soothing, moisturizing and nourishing. It has a texture that is similar to Cocoa Butter and as such can be replaced with Cocoa Butter, Cupacu Butter or Mango Butter.

You can other nourishing ingredients like Aloe Vera powder to make the powder more beneficial.

You can add Orris Root Powder for a floral aroma without using Vanilla Extract.

You can skip the Butter altogether if you don’t like it, have problem with the resulting texture, can’t use a lot of oils or butters, etc. However, we will be adding more variations without butter too. Till then, you can just skip it and it would work. You can increase the silk peptides a tad if you want.

You can also add talc though this recipe doesn’t use Talc. Talc unlike the starch powders and clay gives a nice sheen and has silky texture. However, since we wanted to a recipe without talc, it isn’t added. You can add it for added sheen and texture.

How to use this Recipe?

Just dust it on your skin after shower and enjoy the soft and silky feeling skin it leaves you with.
