DIY Seabuckthorn Foundation Powder

If you use makeup, foundation is probably a requirement. It gives an even base to work with, evens out skin complexion and more.

However, the store-bought foundations are often laden with chemicals or toxins that leave our skin vulnerable and damaged with regular use. I wanted to prepare my own makeup and foundation is one of the most important components of getting the finish right.

I have tried several combinations with good results. This is one such recipe I loved and the sea buckthorn fruit powder makes it a nourishing recipe too.

Instructions

Arrowroot Powder – 1 Tsp.

Sea Buckthorn Fruit Powder – As needed

Cocoa Powder – As needed

Instructions

The base will be Arrowroot Starch powder. Now, depending on your skin tone, add the other two ingredients.

Don’t forget to note down the ratios that you work with so it’s easier next time.

Once you get the right shade, you’re done.

Transfer contents to a sterilized container and use as needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Sea buckthorn Fruit Powder will be anywhere from light yellow to a deep orange red. The shade varies based on the level of ripeness; yield location and other factors that determine the final output color. Some berries are yellow, some are orange red, so the shade can vary and yes, all are sea buckthorn fruits only. So, you have light to yellowish skin tones, you might not need additional ingredients.

Cocoa gives a nice dusky color to the recipe and especially ideal if you have wheat – darker skin tones. Besides, cocoa you can add other coloring pigments too.

You can add a drop or two of essential oils for added benefits.

Why These Ingredients?

Between corn flour and arrowroot powder I have always picked the latter. It is better than the former in my opinion and is ideal even for sensitive skin. It is less dense and also good for your skin. Those with acne problems can use it without having to worry. It also gives a much better finish due to the fairly translucent texture it has.

Sea buckthorn is a rich antioxidant and promotes skin rejuvenation and regeneration. It improves skin elasticity, regenerates skin, curbs acne and inflammation and even soothes skin with skin conditions like Rosacea, Eczema, Psoriasis, etc.

Rich in flavanols, cocoa powder nurtures the skin; improve skin’s hydration and elasticity. Flavanols also curb the damaging effects UV rays cause on our skin and delays ageing skin signs like wrinkles, fine lines and even lightens scars.

How to Use the Foundation?

Use it as you would use any foundation – just make sure to do a patch test before applying on your face or skin.

Shelf Life

Check the shelf life of the ingredients you use in this recipe and go with the one that has the lowest shelf life. It will most likely be sea buckthorn fruit powder. Alternatively, prepare smaller batches and use it up in a few weeks. A rule of the thumb is to discard skin care and beauty products when their texture or aroma changes.
