DIY Mineral Makeup Base for Dry Skin

With a dry skin, using a foundation can be tricky. You don’t want it to worsen your skin, or leave your makeup in patches. Here’s a foundation recipe just for you!

Ingredients

Zinc Oxide – 1 Tsp.
Allantoin – a tiny pinch
Sericite – 1 Tsp. (L-Lysine / Carnauba Wax Treated)
Magnesium Stearate – a tiny pinch
Magnesium Myristate – a tiny pinch
Green Iron Oxide – a pinch

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl except Iron Oxide and mix well.

Once combined, add in the Iron Oxide powder and mix to combine – take a couple of minutes to combine fully without streaks of color. The finish will be uniform only when the mixture is fully blended and combined uniformly.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

How to Use it?

As a base this works best for dry skin and you can use this to whip up any make up that needs a base to work with – just add the color pigments and ingredients unique for the recipe and you’re done!

You can use it dry – dust it on your skin and use a brush to apply evenly.

You can also use a puff to apply the foundation powder.

However, for dry skin, using Glycerin or Rose Hydrosol or Lavender Hydrosol to slightly wet the powder and using it helps combat dryness.

You can also use your face spray or even water to apply it wet if you don’t prefer using hydrosols or don’t have them handy.

You can add a few drops of your lotion and mix the powder to make a wet foundation that’s also moisturizing and apply it.

You can also use this as your finishing powder, or face powder or as your foundation.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Green Iron Oxide is optional – to mask the reddishness and you are adding a very tiny pinch only.

You can use Titanium Oxide instead of Zinc Oxide.

You can also use Rice Powder to combat dryness in the recipe. It can work well – it is an emollient and keeps your skin moisturized and soothes your skin. However, if you are using rice powder, make smaller batches.

You can add a few drops of Vitamin E Oil or Argan Oil to make this pressed powder.

You can add Silk Powder or Silk Peptides to this recipe to get a silky soft finish and look – try this on a small patch first before mixing it with the recipe. You can do this if you are using this as your foundation, or for recipes that can use shimmer and shine.
