DIY Marula Body Balm

A Body Balm is a great skin care aid especially if you live particularly dry areas and want to protect your hands, skin around the joints, heels, etc.

Unless other skin care aids a body balm is not intended for your face since it is denser and meant for protecting skin areas that aren’t delicate. You can apply a body balm to protect your skin but is especially useful for those who have skin issues (skin being dry or rough or scaly) around the joints – elbows, ankles, etc.

This is a denser and a more protective aid to keep skin dryness and scaling at bay by not only nourishing and moisturizing but also protecting it by forming a barrier on the skin. It’s also a water-free composition made of oils and waxes.

I was looking at a preservative free body balm alternative when I realized applying my lip balm on my ankles and elbows worked wonders to make them soft. So, after a lot of research, tweaking and suggestions from friends and alternative medicine practitioners I have crafted a body balm that works well for the skin.

It’s been a while since the Holiday Season and this post is long overdue. Doing some overhaul so had to take a quick break. Back now in full swing. Let’s take at the recipe and then move to the properties of the ingredients used. Ready, everyone?

Ingredients

Narcissus Floral Wax – ½ Tbsp.
Shea Butter – 15 Gms.
Marula Oil – 10 Ml

Instructions

Melt Shea Butter in your double boiler.

Once melted remove from heat and stir in Narcissus Floral Wax and Marula Oil.

If the floral wax doesn’t melt and merge you can heat slightly till melted before adding Marula Oil.

Once combined transfer to a sterilized jar and let it set after mixing well to combine the ingredients to get a homogenous mixture.

Done!

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can refrigerate to quicken the setting process after preparing the balm.

You don’t need any preservative, as there are no water base ingredients. Oils and Butters have longer shelf life.

You can add essential oils of your choice for added benefits and aroma.

You can any floral wax according to your skin type, budget, requirements and availability – Blue Lotus Wax, Rose Wax, Chamomile Wax, Helichrysum Wax,
Lavender Wax, Clary Sage Wax and Jasmine Wax are few options, though there are other floral waxes too.

You can substitute Shea Butter with other butter including Cupacu Butter, Kokum Butter, Mango Butter, Almond Butter, etc.

You can choose any light oil instead of Marula Oil – Grapeseed Oil, Macadamia Oil, Sunflower Oil, Argan Oil, etc.

Why These Ingredients

Narcissus Floral Wax – Emollient, repairs skin, naturally protects your skin from harmful UCV damage and has a relaxing effect.

Marula Oil – Light and suitable for most skin types, this oil is right in Omega Fatty Acids and useful for treating dry skin and other skin conditions.

Shea Butter – Light and nourishing, this moisturizing butter is also suitable for all skin types.

How to Use the Balm?

Apply to cleansed skin for best results. Massage for a few seconds for full absorption and don’t forget to re-apply if needed. You can also apply this to your face lightly depending on the ingredients you choose and if you don’t have oily or acne-prone skin.
