DIY Golden Shimmer Mineral Eye Shadow

Want to add to some shimmer to your eye shadow? Try this Golden Shimmer Mineral Eye Shadow and look golden!

Golden isn’t just for stars or for special occasions. When worn right, it could subtle beauty and grace to the wearer.

I wanted a milder golden hue to wear for casual outing during the day, or for work, or even for lounging and relaxing. Here’s what I came up with.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients, shall we?

Ingredients

Bronze Mica Powder – a pinch
Gold Mica Powder – a pinch
Silver Mica Powder – a pinch

You can either use one of the makeup bases we have shared earlier, or do this:

Sericite – a pinch
Titanium Dioxide – a teensy tiny pinch
Magnesium Stearate – a teensy tiny pinch
Fuller’s Earth – a teensy tiny pinch

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and blend using a spatula manually for a few minutes.

Adjust the color pigments according to your skin tone and the end result – it will be a golden brown color when done.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

Note: By teensy tiny pinch, I mean less than a pinch … a miniscule amount in fact! That’s because, we want more of the color for the eye shadow and with mica, you need less of the makeup base.

How to Use it?

You can use it as your eye shadow and it looks great when paired with Smoky eye makeup.

You can also use this as your highlighter and depending on your skin tone, as your blush!

Who Does this Eye Shadow Suit?

It suits everyone, particularly those with medium – dark skin tones.

It looks great for those with neutral or warm undertones.

Though it looks good for any eye color, it highlights gray or blue eyes really well.

Shelf Life

Depending on the ingredients shelf life – check the shelf life of the ingredients added and go with the one with least shelf life. I use mine for a few months, if not more. Considering they’re dry ingredients, there’s nothing to worry about when used in a hygienic way and kept dry.

If you want to use it wet, scoop out the quantity you need from the jar and then wet it. This way, you can retain the eye shadow in good condition and use it longer than when moisture is involved in the main jar.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Feel free to play around with the ratio of the color pigments, or even the color pigments itself to get a color that you love. The end result will vary depending on the mica colors that you get in your area, or where you buy from – different suppliers have variations on the end resulting color. So, choose the colors accordingly and work with your raw materials accordingly. There’s no right or wrong results here – just what you like, love and how to tweak the ones that turn out differently 😉

Mica adds shimmer to the recipe. So, if you are not a fan of that, go with Iron Oxide pigments for color. However, remember that iron oxide pigments are more concentrated and give a matte finish.
