Facial Serums that work are few though you see many variants on the shelves. However, they have one thing in common – they’re pricey. Do you know you can whip your own serum without spending a fortune and it’s easy?
Yes, an all-natural serum costs the fraction of a cost you would pay for a serum off the shelves. What’s more, when you start preparing more stuff in your kitchen it will become even easier and cost lesser – as you can buy ingredients together in larger quantities.
Before we get into the topic, let’s learn the recipe first. It’s easy and the ingredients used are available everywhere.
Ingredients
Evening Primrose Oil – 2 Tbsp.
Helichrysum Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Rosehip Oil – 2 Tbsp.
Jojoba Oil – 2 Tbsp. (Optional)
Myrrh Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Rose Geranium Essential Oil – 2 Drops
Lavender Essential Oil – 5 Drops
Vitamin E Oil – ¼ Tsp. (Optional)
Instructions
Add all the ingredients to a dark glass amber bottle and shake gently.
Done!
Let it sit for a day or two before you use it.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can also use other anti-ageing oils like Carrot Seed Oil, Pomegranate Seed Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, etc.
Rosehip Oil doesn’t have a long shelf life, a reason we need Vitamin E Oil in the recipe, though you can skip it if you prepare smaller batches.
You can use or skip the Jojoba Oil, or substitute other anti-ageing oils instead that suit your requirements and preferences. Apricot Oil, Avocado Oil, Seabuckthorn Oil, Hazelnut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Coconut Oil, Argan Oil, Grapeseed Oil, etc. are few options you can consider.
You can also use other anti-ageing essential oils based on your preference and suitability.
How to Use the Recipe?
Gently massage your face with this serum every night, and morning (depends on your requirement and suitability). Use upward stokes for applying the serum. Gently massage your skin with this serum. Give more attention around your mouth, eyes, nose corners and other problematic areas for best results.
Use this DIY Facial Serum morning and night around the eyes, mouth and other trouble areas on the face
Why These Ingredients?
I have chosen the ingredients based on my preferences and also their properties. The key is identifying what suits you best and going with local ingredients works best in my opinion.
I like the combination of Rosehip, Evening Primrose and Jojoba Oil and find it particularly effective and suitable to keep my skin nourished, moisturized, supple and most importantly, keeps acne at bay.
Though there are many essential oil choices, Myrrh and Helichrysum are my go-to options for anti-ageing as they’re very effective and Myrrh adds a mystic aroma to the recipe.
Vitamin E Is also anti-ageing and comes in handy here also as a preservative. It prevents Rosehip Oil from going rancid.
Lavender is also anti-ageing and haling, but I like the aroma too. That’s why it is added here. As for Rose Geranium it is one of the best oils for ageing skin and is fairly affordable compared to other oils that offer similar results.
Over all, oils work together to keep your skin supple, soft and looking younger. Fine lines and wrinkles reduce, are prevented and most importantly, your skin remains healthy and happy. Don’t have time for DIY Recipes? Try Gaya Anti Ageing products instead.
