Want to cover up marks or acne while having to attend an important event, or for a date night, or for looking good? A concealer does just that, and more.
So, Concealer was a dream find for me when I had a lot of acne issues at one point. It all started when I had to dabble with makeup to satisfy a few of my relatives but that ended up costing me my clear skin much to my dismay. Enter concealer to hide the marks temporarily while I work on healing my skin. This is a natural concealer that not only works but also doesn’t look like you’ve dolled up and gives a natural look.
With blemishes and marks I find I need a concealer at times, especially when stepping out and socializing. I however did not like smearing products on my skin and rattling it again – after all, all this started with using products that are harmful for the skin. So the idea to come up with a concealer. I have tried a few versions and liked them all. Here’s another version for your collection.
Ingredients
Sweet Almond Oil – 1 Tsp.
Witch Hazel – ½ Tsp.
Shea Butter – ½ Tsp.
Aloe Gel – 1 ½ Tsp.
Emulsifying Wax – ¼ Tsp.
Titanium Dioxide – 1 Tbsp.
Kaolin Clay – ¼ Tsp.
Cocoa Powder – ¼ Tsp.
Instructions
Melt Shea Butter and Emulsifying Wax is your double boiler. Wait till it completely melts.
Add the Almond Oil, Witch Hazel and Aloe Gel.
Whisk to combine and remove from heat.
Remove from heat and add in the Titanium Dioxide Powder & Kaolin Clay and mix well.
Add the Cocoa Powder according to your requirement – based on your skin tone and also, don’t add it all together. The shade can vary, so add as you go.
Transfer to your dispenser and let it cool down.
Tips for Best Results
Don’t add too much cocoa powder – the color should be a notch lighter than your skin for best results. Try on your underside of your arm to check the shade.
You can add more or less Titanium Dioxide depending on the coverage you need. I needed full coverage so added clay, if you are skipping clay add a tad more Titanium Dioxide.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can use Zinc Oxide as it gives better coverage according to experts. I like Titanium Dioxide as it seems to have a good effect on my skin when applied and doesn’t look too cakey. However, both work well and it’s just a matter of preference.
If you’re planning to use this as a highlighter or for contouring, you should add lesser of the coverage ingredients for a sheen look. If you’re just using this as a concealer, you can opt for full coverage.
Shelf Life
I prepare smaller batches though you can use this for a few months, as long as the texture or smell doesn’t change.
