Cleansing is a very important part of skin care routine. Dust, makeup, bacteria and what not, get accumulated on the skin and without cleansing, they’re bound to stay back and cause havoc on your skin.
I wanted to prepare a cleansing cream that’s effective, but also easy on the skin. I also wanted it to remove impurities from the pores and keep skin fresh and breathing after a long day.
Let’s take a look at the ingredients first.
Ingredients
Beeswax – ½ Tbsp.
Emulsifying Wax – 1 Tbsp.
Sweet Almond Oil – 4 Tbsp.
Witch Hazel – 1 Tbsp.
Coconut Oil – 2 Tbsp.
Borax – ¼ Tsp.
Rose Geranium Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Instructions
In your double boiler, add Emulsifying Wax and Beeswax.
If you don’t have a double boiler, prepare a makeshift one by placing a wide bowl with water and a small vessel to heat the waxes inside it.
When the waxes melt fully, add in Sweet Almond Oil and Coconut Oil to it.
In a small bowl, heat a few spoons of water and add ¼ spoon Borax.
When it dissolves, add in the Witch Hazel and let it sit for a few seconds – remember this can evaporate. So, don’t keep it for long.
Remove wax from heat when melted and add it to the borax mixture slowly.
Let the mixture cool down for a bit.
Add in the Rose Geranium Essential Oil and mix to combine.
After a while, the mixture will begin to thicken.
Use your hand blender to whip the ingredients to a nice creamy texture.
Done!
Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can modify the ratios or even quantity to suit your needs or requirement better – a smaller or larger batch.
I prefer Sweet Almond Oil, though any carrier oil that works for your skin is good.
Witch Hazel helps with regulating serum levels, though if you have dry or sensitive skin, you can reduce or skip it.
You can use any Essential Oil for this recipe. I like Rose Geranium soothes the skin, especially sensitive skin. However, Lavender or any other essential oil that you like, or suits your skin works too.
How to Use the Cleansing Cream?
Apply the cream in upward strokes and leave it on your skin for a minute. After a minute, use a damp cotton or tissue to wipe off the cream along with dirt and grime from your skin.
This cream gently and effectively removes dirt and grime, without hurting or harming your skin. However, do a patch test before you apply on your face. Those with sensitive skin, especially, should be mindful about using new stuff on their skin.
