DIY Citrus Body Spray

Nothing is as invigorating and refreshing as Citrus aroma right? That’s one reason why many sporty deodorants and perfumes use one or more Citrus aromas in them.

When I decided to go the DIY route for my beauty and skin care requirements, I came up with the idea to craft my own perfume. Needless to say, Citrus Essential Oils topped my list of oils to try out with. So, let’s look at an invigorating perfume recipe for the season.

Ingredients

Lavender Hydrosol – ¼ Cup
Orange Blossom Water – ¼ Cup
Denatured Alcohol or Vodka or Glycerin – 3 Tsp.
Tangerine Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Patchouli Essential Oil – 2 Drops
Myrrh Essential Oil – 5 Drops

Instructions

Add all the ingredients listed above in a sterilized glass bottle.

Shake to combine.

Let it sit for a day before you use it.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Denatured Alcohol or Vodka for the recipe and Glycerin if you’re not a fan of alcohol. Glycerin is said to help with binding the oils with hydrosols.

You can choose any essential oil(s) of your choice for this recipe. I loved a combination of essential oils, though just one will work too. Sandalwood or Lavender are my first picks if I am going with just one.

You can use hydrosols alone and skip alcohol altogether. It works too. In that case you will have to shake before every use, as they don’t mix without a carrier.

You can just use different hydrosols according to your preference or even prepare the hydrosols yourself – I like using Rose Hydrosol and it is easy to prepare too.

You can use rubbing alcohol though it is not for everyone. I for one never preferred it.

Vodka is the best and purest form of alcohol and has very little fragrance that can detract the aromas you’re using. So if you get Vodka it is the best option, though Denatured Alcohol works too.

Denatured Alcohol is a regulated ingredient, so if you’re not able to get it you can go with Vodka.

Just like Rose Hydrosol you could prepare your own Hydrosols with Orange Blossoms, Rosemary Leaves, Lavender, Calendula, etc.

Shelf Life

This lasts for a few days, so prepare small batches for a week or so.
