DIY Cedar Beard Butter

Wondering why you need beard butter? If you love stubble then this is a must for you!

Beard is considered an extension of the man and in some cultures and countries growing beard and moustache are the norm. However, growing out facial hair also means maintenance – this keeps them neat, soft and sexy. While we all some stubble, we definitely won’t love it if it’s scratchy and unruly.

Unlike a wax or balm, butter is more pliant and easy to maneuver. It’s also more suited for those with shorter or trimmed beards or stubble. It conditions your beard and keeps it smooth and shining. Cool, right?

Ingredients

Cocoa Butter – 1 Tbsp.

Shea Butter – 2 Tbsp.

Beeswax – ½ Tsp.

Sweet Almond Oil – 1 Tbsp.

Castor Oil – 1 Tsp.

Cinnamon Essential Oil – 2 drops

Cedarwood Essential Oil – a few drops

Instructions

Melt the butters and wax in your double boiler.

When melted add in the Castor and Sweet Almond Oils.

Remove from heat.

After the mixture cools down a little add the Essential Oils.

Mix well and transfer to sterilized jars or containers.

Done!

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use your preferred butters for this recipe – Mango Butter, Kokum Butter, Avocado Butter, etc.

Those who don’t prefer to use Beeswax, Soy Wax is a vegan alternative. Candelilla wax or Carnauba Wax are other options you have besides Beeswax. Carnauba Wax has a slightly shinier texture than other waxes and more sought after for that purpose.

I have chosen Sweet Almond Oil & Castor Oil though you can choose any carrier oil(s) of your choice.

As for the Essential Oils I like the combination of Cinnamon Essential Oil and Cedar Essential Oil, though Sandalwood Essential Oil, Clove Oil, Myrrh Essential Oil, Citrus Essential Oils, Frankincense Essential Oil and few other oils work well for men.

Why These Ingredients?

I have chosen few ingredients so it’s fairly easy though you can swap it for similar or equivalent ingredients based on your preference, requirement and their availability.

I had in mind a simple and easy recipe to condition, nourish and nurture trimmed beards. Long beards need a different type of care and attention, while shorter beards are fairly easy to maintain. However, with a little pampering and care, they’re soft, shining and makes your man look like a dream! This butter does just so you can sport that stubble and enjoy doing it!

How to Use the Butter?

Take a small dollop and apply on your beard and groom. Done!

Shelf Life

We haven’t added any hydrosols or water-based ingredients. This will last a good while, though I would go with the shelf life of the ingredients. If they were good and longer, I would recommend preparing newer and smaller batches every month or two.
