So, I wanted to prepare a bronze eye shadow that would go well with a sun-kissed look.
I tried a few combinations and loved this combination best. So, am ready to share the recipe and hope you are ready with to try this out!
Ingredients
Bronze Mica – a pinch
Gold Mica – a pinch
Pearlescent Gold Mica – a pinch
Satin Brown Mica – a teensy tiny pinch
Sericite – a teensy tiny pinch
Zinc Stearate – a teensy tiny pinch
Titanium Oxide – a teensy tiny pinch
Magnesium Stearate – a teensy tiny pinch
Brown Illite Clay – a teensy tiny pinch (Optional)
Instructions
Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and blend manually. It takes a couple of minutes to blend well and without any streaks.
I add all the ingredients except Mica and then after blending them well for a minute or two, I add Mica powders and blend again. This keeps the mixture uniform.
When fully blended, transfer to a sterilized jar.
Use as needed.
Who can Use this Eye Shadow?
It suits warm skin undertones best.
It goes well with any eye color, but brings out blues well.
What Can the Eye Shadow be Used for?
Besides eye shadow, it doubles up as an excellent bronzer for sun-kissed look. Depending on your skin tone, it can also be used as blush. Needless to say it can be used as a highlighter or eyeliner.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
There are different shades of Golden and Bronze Micas, including variants like Pearl Micas, Satin Micas, Smoky Micas, etc. Pick the shades that are available in your area or from where you buy raw materials and choose the combination according to the shade – these shades worked best for a sun-kissed look for me, but the Mica shades can vary. So choose according to the end result you’re looking at and what you like ☺
If you want a slightly darker shade, you can either up your Mica or add a dash of Iron Oxide Pigments.
You can swap Titanium Dioxide for Zinc Oxide. For shimmery or satiny finish, I like Titanium Dioxide best.
Clay is optional and so is the choice of clay. Kaolin clay is ideal as it is suitable even for sensitive skin types.
You can use your makeup base, or talc if you don’t have time for the exhaustive recipe and just add Mica powders to a dash of your base or talc (mineral talc) and whip up this eye shadow real quick.
Like any other DIY recipe, this is purely something for you – so feel free to tweak, play around or change anything you like, including the shades ☺ That’s why DIY is real fun.
