Coming up with the right ingredients and combinations for combination skin is challenging and tricky. Here’s a body butter recipe you can try!
Let’s take a look at the recipe and then more about the ingredients, OK?
Ingredients
Jojoba Oil – 50 Ml
Carrot Seed Oil – 50 Ml
Apricot Kernel Butter – 50 Gms.
White Cocoa Butter – 50 Gms.
Neroli Essential Oil – 5 – 10 Drops
Instructions
Melt the Cocoa Butter and Apricot Kernel Butter in a double boiler.
When the butters melt, add the Jojoba Oil and Carrot Seed Oil and remove from heat.
Transfer to a bowl and let it sit for a few minutes.
When the mixture has cooled down, add the Essential Oil and mix gently.
Refrigerate the mixture till is slightly solidified. This takes a few minutes to ½ hour or more, depending on your refrigerator.
When slightly solidified, remove from refrigerator and use your hand blender to whip the ingredients.
You might have to refrigerate once more in between, though it is not needed at times.
When it fully whipped and fluffy, transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can also use Bergamot or Grapeseed Essential Oils, as they’re suitable for Combination Skin.
Also, the carrier oil options include Sunflower Oil & Apricot Kernel Oil, so if you want to swap one of the oils in the ingredients, you can do that with these oils.
I also use a few drops of Lavender / Chamomile to soothe and calm my skin. You can try that if you want to soothe your skin.
I usually substitute Cocoa Butter for White Cocoa Butter, since it is deodorized.
Why These Ingredients?
White Cocoa Butter has the properties of Cocoa Butter but is deodorized. It is suitable for dry and combination skin. It is a stable, hard butter, that’s rich in antioxidants and has a shelf life of 2 – 5 years. It doesn’t go rancid easily and the fragrance is sweet, chocolaty and the emollient properties make it rich and healing.
Apricot Kernel Butter is absolutely moisturizing, yet light and smells nutty. I like the scent and non-greasy of this butter is suitable for Combination and Oily Skin Types.
Jojoba Oil is not an oil but a liquid wax and resembles our skin’s serum, a reason it is suitable for all skin types. It is non-greasy, light and offers numerous benefits. It is moisturizing, nourishing, balances skin’s oil secretion, soothes skin inflammation and whatnot!
Carrot Seed Oil is rich in antioxidants and protects your skin from external factors that causes stress and makes your skin radiant. It regulates oil secretion and moisturizes combination skin without clogging your pores. What’s not to like about it?
Neroli Essential Oil makes your skin smooth and soft, balances moisture levels and suitable for both dry and oily skin. Even if your skin is sensitive, you can use Neroli without worrying about sensitivity to sunlight that’s common with Citrus EOs.
Shelf Life
This recipe can last six months or longer, depending on the life of the ingredients used.
