DIY Anti-Acne Gel

Acne is a skin problem that happens when skin pores are clogged with excess oil from skin, or dead skin cells. There are many over the counter products for dealing with acne, though not many really work and the ones that work are pricey.

Besides, most are laden with chemicals and I am really not a fan of them! So, I wanted a natural solution that works and keeps acne at bay. This simple recipe really works wonders for me and I think you should give it a shot.

The gel itself is very simple and you need very few ingredients. We’re going to look at the ingredients and then, how to prepare the gel.

Ingredients

Aloe Vera Gel – 4 Tbsp.
Lavender Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Tea Tree Essential Oil – 5 Drops
Cinnamon Essential Oil – 2 Drops
Clary Sage Essential Oil – 2 Drops

Preparation

In a mixing bowl, add the Aloe Vera Gel, followed by all the other essential oils.

Mix the ingredients using a spatula to combine.

Store in a sterilized jar.

Shelf Life

This lasts for 15 – 20 days.

How to Use the Gel?

Cleanse your face.

Put a wet hot towel on your face to open up the pores. You can repeat this a few times, if needed.

Massage the gel on your skin – face and neck.

You can do this twice daily, though once is enough for most.

It would take 2 weeks or more, before you start seeing results.

Remember

Do a patch test before you apply this on your face. With a few potent ingredients, you don’t want to harm your skin. It is a good idea to check if you’re allergic, or if the strength is right for you.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use store-bought Aloe Vera or fresh Aloe. I prefer fresh Aloe and keep my gel refrigerated.

You can also add Rosehip Oil to this recipe. It works wonders, especially for acne-prone skin.

If you have sensitive skin, reduce the Cinnamon Oil. Mild tingling for a few seconds after applying this gel is normal. However, reddishness or continued tingling isn’t.

You can also Nutmeg or Clove Oils.

Adding other carrier oils like Jojoba Oil can effectively make this an excellent moisturizer, for those who find something missing when applying this and fetching the moisturizer.

Why These Ingredients?

I once tried an anti-acne gel that worked wonders for my skin. However, they stopped the product and I never found a suitable replacement. After back and forth research and trials, I came up with this recipe and this gel almost matched the one I was longing for.
