DIY Pre-Bath Body Oil

Do you know applying oil before bath is a traditional practice and has been followed in several countries even now? Want to know how you can incorporate this traditional practice and why?

Pre-bath oils are used for various purposes. The oil used isn’t plain oils and are often infused with herbs according to the purpose or the practice prevalent in the country. The oils are infused for different purposes like stimulation of circulation, relaxation, improving sleep, detox or even for uplifting one’s mood. Besides, they nourish, moisturize and soothe your skin. Today, we’re going to go for a detoxing recipe.

We all know applying oil after a bath can moisturize your skin and restore lost moisture. Besides, it is said to help delay ageing skin signs and depending on the ingredients in the oil, can offer other benefits – like when essential oils are thrown into the mix!

On the other hand, oil applied before bath can enhance the healing benefits, especially when the hot water is used. When you have a hot bath after applying oils, they are able to penetrate deeper and promote better relaxation. So, now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s take a look at the recipe.

Ingredients

Coconut Oil – 60 Ml
Helichrysum Essetnail Oil – 1 drop
Cypress Essential Oil – 1 drop
Frankincense Essential Oil – 1 drop
Pine Essential Oil – 1 drop
Palmarosa Essential Oil – 1 drop
Lemongrass Essential Oil – 1 drop
Thyme Essential Oil – 1 drop
Neem Oil – 5 drops
Juniper Essential Oil – 1 drop
Petitgrain Essential Oil – 5 drops
Wintergreen Essential Oil – 1 drop

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a dark amber glass bottle with a dropper and shake gently. Let it sit for 2 days before you begin to use it.

How to Use It?

Massage your body with this mixture and let it sit for 15 minutes – 30 minutes before soaking yourself in the hot bath – 20 minutes at least!

Why These Ingredients?

All the ingredients including the essential oils chosen are picked based on their detox properties. I learnt this recipe from one of my friends who is into aromatherapy and modified to suit my needs. So, feel free to modify the recipe as you see fit!

This mixture will stimulate your internal organ, promote detox and lymphatic drainage and relax your mind and body. It also helps ease mild aches and pains and promotes better organ functioning. You can use this 2 – 3 times a week.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can reduce the ingredients or swap it for what you have and don’t have, though I would suggest making sure you choose oils that offer detox benefits.

You can use Sesame Oil instead of Coconut Oil or along with it.

Can I Use this if am Showering?

Yes, you can. The results aren’t as good as a soak, though not everyone can use a bath soak at all times. Shower or bath, make sure you spend some time with your body and shower patiently to relax your mind and body while washing off the dirt and grime from your body.
