When you want a pick up, you probably think tea or coffee. But you can’t have more than a few and with time, they won’t really lift your skin. Will they?
With age, skin tends to look dull and lifeless. Also, your skin needs more care than it required until now. Not just with ageing, if you have had a hectic or really busy day, or when you are really stressed out or haven’t had enough sleep, it reflects on your skin.
What to do for a quick pick me up for skin? I for one noticed that citrus does a really good job at making your skin look refreshing. That’s exactly why this Skin Refresher has loads of Citrus ingredients. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?
Ingredients
Rubbing Alcohol / Vodka – ¼ Cup
Lemon Essential Oil – 20 Drops
Tangerine Essential Oil – 20 Drops
Peppermint Essential Oil – 3 – 5 Drops
Distilled Water – 10 Tsps.
Orange Essential Oil – 5 Drops
Instructions
In a spritzer, mix all the ingredients together.
Shake gently to combine and wait for two days before you start using it.
Shelf Life
This lasts a good six months, but you can prepare smaller batches if you are wary, or refrigerate it. Also the refrigeration cools the mixture and adds to the refreshing effect when sprayed.
Why These Ingredients?
Basically, the Citrus ingredients not only lighten your skin, reduces the appearance of scars and marks and age spots, it also adds a radiance to the face. With the tingling Peppermint, the chillness of Menthol is a good wakeup call too!
How to Use It?
Pat, mist or splash this on your face and along the pulse points where your complexion looks dull. I usually mist this on my face, behind my ears, neck where I can feel my pulse and inside the wrists. Try it, you won’t be able to stop using this!
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can add more Citrus Essential Oils if you have a preference, or swap one of these for your favorites. Bergamot Essential Oil, Lime Essential Oil, Bitter Orange Essential Oil, Mandarin Essential Oil, Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Grapefruit Essential Oil, Blood Orange Essential Oil, Petitgrain Essential Oil, Yuzu Essential Oil and Neroli Essential Oil are other options you can consider adding to this recipe.
If you don’t want to use Alcohol on your skin, you can use Distilled Water instead. However, just spray on your pulse points in that case, if you don’t want to smudge your makeup. Water doesn’t dry up quickly like Alcohol.
You can also add Orange Floral Water to this recipe, though I hardly get it where I live. So if you get hands on it, add it away! Instead of Orange Floral Water I usually add a few spoons of Orange Juice or Orange Peel Extract or a few drops of Orange Essential Oil. However, if you are adding Orange Floral Water or Extracts, reduce the Distilled Water in the recipe accordingly.
