DIY Face Powder

Do you know the Talcum Powder that you use is loaded with chemicals? Haven’t you heard – don’t put anything on your skin that you can’t eat! I kicked my Talcum Powder to the curb long back and replaced it with an edible powder!

Why do we Use Powder?

It is to make you look good and feel fresh. Isn’t it? Basically, the powder gets rid of excess oil and gives a nice sheen to your skin. It also offers mild – medium coverage and makes one look good. Earlier, Talcum Powder used Talc (mineral ingredient) and starch but now, is that all you see in the ingredient list?

Here we’re looking at a simple Face Powder recipe that’s white – just like Talcum Powder. We will be adding more recipes to suit different skin tones and types.

Ingredients

Arrowroot Powder – 2 Tbsp.
Zinc Oxide – 1 Tbsp.
Essential Oil – a few drops (optional)

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients.

Use a spatula to combine the ingredients and get rid of any lumps.

Transfer to a sterilized jar.

Note: You can also sieve the mixture to get an even texture, though it is not needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Corn Starch instead of Arrowroot Powder in this recipe.

You can add Mica Powder if you want to add a dash of shimmer to the recipe.

Essential Oil – Pick the one that you are comfortable with, or what suits your skin best. Lavender, Chamomile or even Frankincense are ideal choices for those with sensitive skin. However, if you don’t want to use Essential Oils or not keen about aroma in your face powder, you can skip it.

If you don’t want to use starch, you can also use Bentonite Clay instead. It is a mild clay and suitable for those with sensitive skin. Just remember, this isn’t pure white clay and is slightly cream or greyish. If you are OK with that, you could go with it. The best part about using Bentonite Clay on your face is that it draws out toxins, deals with skin irritation and minor infection or redness and soothes your skin.

You can use Titanium Di-oxide instead of Zinc Oxide. Whenever you buy mineral raw materials, make sure they’re cosmetic grade, safe to use on skin and non-Nano.

How to Use It?

Just dust it on your face using a powder puff, fluffy blush or foundation brush or just like you would apply your talcum powder. No biggie!

FAQs

Will it get stuck to your face if your face becomes wet?

Nope, it wouldn’t turn cakey or like a mask on your skin. What happens when you splash water on your face after apply face powder? Yes, it washes off! That’s all!

Will Starch-based powder aggravate acne?

For those with acne-prone or sensitive skin, I recommend Arrowroot Powder as I noticed it suits sensitive skin and doesn’t cause flare-up. Also, it doesn’t aggravate acne. However, I have heard some say Cornstarch can aggravate acne, a reason I used Arrowroot Powder in my recipe. Bentonite Clay doesn’t trigger acne outbreaks either, if anything, it curbs them.
