Sometimes, our lips need tender loving care. Lip butters pamper, nourish and moisturize your lips, so they can be soft and kissable.
Lip butters are like your lip balms with added flavor or color, though they often resemble a whipped cream consistency. They’re extremely nourishing and moisturizing and make your lips softer, when Oil alone can’t get the job done – think extremely dry or chapped lips that tend to bleed easily.
There are different recipes to prepare a luscious lip butter, but this is one of my favorites. I also like a bit of color in my lip balm, so I don’t have to use a lipstick or gloss along with this. I typically use them when I am at home, expecting guests or during days when I don’t want to apply makeup 😉
However, they really make lips feel softer in no time. Made with both oils and butters, they are the best way to pamper your lips while also healing and nourishing them. Want to know how to prepare it?
Ingredients
Cocoa Butter – 1 Tbsp.
Avocado Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Olive Oil – 2 Tsp.
Vitamin E Oil – ½ Tsp.
Vanilla Essence – a few drops
Instructions
Melt the Cocoa Butter in your double boiler.
When it begins to melt, add Olive Oil, Avocado Oil and Vitamin E Oil and remove from heat when melted.
Add a few drops of Vanilla Essence (you can add this in your double boiler, or after you remove from heating).
Stir with a spatula or a stick and refrigerate.
When it is slightly thick but not fully opaque, remove from the refrigerator.
Now, whip this till you get a fluffy and creamy lip cream!
Transfer to a jar and use as needed.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
I like a creamy consistency, over a balmy one. So I did not add Beeswax. You can add ¼ – ½ Tsp. of Beeswax or more, if you want something like a lip balm.
This is plain lip butter, but you can add your favorite shades and make it a colorful lip cream that will also add a touch of color when used. I go with Beetroot or Berry extracts, though any color pigment including Rose Petals (powdered), Hibiscus Petals (powdered), crushed Pomegranate Seeds, Alkanet Root Powder, Cocoa Powder or even Food Colors can be used.
If you want creative color options you can either use food colors, or your favorite lipstick to this recipe for a hint of color.
Add some shimmer with Mica powders 😉 Choose the one that works well with the shade or color pigment you have chosen.
Shelf Life
Since we have not added any water-based ingredients, this should last for a month or more. However, I prepare fresh batches every 2 – 3 weeks even though I use Vitamin E Oil in my recipe.
