DIY Shimmer Gel

What to do when you want to look stunning for an evening outing? Use some shimmer or glitter, of course! Here’s a DIY Shimmer Gel recipe that will give you head turning looks in a jiffy. Ready?

We get ready-made shimmer gels or creams off the shelves. So, what’s the problem with using them? They’re loaded with ingredients that are harmful and do more harm than good.

Let’s be honest here – have you ever understood at least half of the ingredients in a beauty product? I definitely don’t understand much, even if I do, they’re definitely not what I want to put on my skin – even occasionally.

But, how are evening outings fun without some glitter, right? After all, the shimmer and glitter is meant for evenings or nights, and they do look good on pictures. Don’t you think?

So, I decided I wanted something to add shimmer without piling on the chemicals. Besides, my little niece likes using stuff from my dressing table so I want to be careful about stuff I let her use. Ready for the recipe?

aloe-vera

Ingredients

Aloe Vera Gel – 100 Gms.
Vitamin E Oil – 5 Drops
Pearl Mica – ½ – 1 Tsp.

Instructions

Add the Aloe Vera Gel, Vitamin E Oil and Mica Powder to a bowl.

Use your hand blender to blend the ingredients together and to get a fine gel consistency.

Transfer to a sterilized pump and use as needed.

Why These Ingredients?

We have all heard about Mineral Makeup. Mica is a natural mineral powder that is widely used in mineral makeup and available in a large selection of colors. You can choose whatever color works for you.

Depending on your skin tone and requirement, you can choose between golden, silver, white, wine pink, brown, copper, etc. All these colors and more are available, and can be used to add natural shimmer and shine in your beauty products.

How to Use it?

I just apply a sparse coating of this gel to my skin or hair, as desired.

Precautions

Mica is a very fine substance; so don’t inhale it while using it. I noticed it could cause breathing difficulty, especially if you are asthmatic.

Shelf Life

I usually refrigerate this and take it out a few minutes before I have to use it and refrigerate again. It holds good for a few months, though I prepare smaller batches, as I don’t use this often. A rule of the thumb is to clean out your beauty and skincare products at regular intervals, 3 – 6 months at most – especially if they’re DIY and don’t have preservatives.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can skip the Vitamin E Oil if you think it leaves your skin oily, or reduce the quantity. I noticed it not only nourishes my skin, but also, gives it a nice sheen.

You can also add Essential Oils of your choice for added aroma and benefits.
