What’s Your Skin Type?

Knowing what’s your skin type is important to choose the right ingredients for your skin care. Let’s talk about the different skin types, shall we?

You’ve probably heard about the different skin types and have an idea. We’re going to look at the different skin types, their traits and characteristics, etc. Do you want to know what’s your skin type? Do you want to know how to determine what’s your skin type?

Before we go further, it is important to understand that the skin type can change, with age or due to various other factors. So, be sure to check on that too.

Why is Knowing Your Skin Type Important?

  • Different skin types have different characteristics, traits, etc.
  • Your skin type determines your water levels, elasticity, oil levels, etc.
  • It also affects your sensitivity, softness, etc.

Let’s take a look at the types, shall we?

Normal Skin

If you have Normal Skin, you are truly blessed! However, not many people are blessed with this skin type.

Characteristics

  • Normal skin isn’t too oily, nor is it dry. It is just right.
  • Soft and smooth
  • There’s no major sensitivity problems, no visible pores and the complexion is radiant.
  • Imperfections are few to nil.

Dry Skin

Dry can peel or crack or become irritated, inflamed or itchy quite easily. It is dry and when very dry, can become scaly and rough. Hands, Legs, Arms and Back of your Hands are drier than other areas. Also, the skin feels tight more so after cleansing.

Characteristics

  • Rough and dull complexion
  • Nil or near invisible pores
  • Less elastic skin
  • Red Patches
  • Visible lines

Oily Skin

As the name suggests, the skin is oily and is prone to acne or pimples.

Characteristics

  • Thick, dull or shiny complexion
  • Large and visible pores
  • Oily or greasy skin
  • Pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and blemishes

Combination Skin

This a tricky skin type, where you have a combination of more than one skin type. Your skin is oily in few areas typically the T-zone and normal or dry in the others. Also, different areas will need different care.

Characteristics

  • Shiny skin
  • Larger pores that are more open
  • Blackheads

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is more of a condition than type and pretty much anything can trigger it. It is quite easy to get irritated or inflamed, so you must be careful with what you use.

Characteristic

  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Burning
  • Dryness

How to Identify Your Skin Type?

I recommend doing this first thing in the morning, though anytime should do. Wash and pat dry and wait for an hour.

Now, press a soft facial tissue to your face and press gently.

Remove after a few seconds and hold the tissue against light.

If the tissue is clear – there’s not much oil nor there’s any flaky skin residue, your skin is normal.

If the tissue shows oil everywhere, you have oily skin.

If the tissue shows oil around your T-zone and looks normal elsewhere, you have combination skin.

If the tissue comes out without any oil but with flaky skin residue, you have dry skin.

Now that you’ve identified your skin type, you can look at the right ingredients or skin care routine to care for your skin appropriately. Check out Aya Skin and Face Care products – their products are natural, made with Virgin Olive Oil and there’s a product for every requirement.
