Sore and tired muscles are inevitable considering most of us have hectic lifestyles and multitasking has become the norm. Do you want a body butter that will not only moisturize but also soothe your sore and tired muscles?
Let’s look at the recipe and then talk about the ingredients, shall we?
Ingredients
Sweet Almond Oil – 8 Tbsp.
Beeswax – 11/2 Tbsp.
Shea Butter – 3 Tbsp.
Magnesium Oil – 8 Tbsp.
Instructions
Heat the beeswax, Shea butter and Sweet almond oil in a double boiler.
When they melt and combine, remove from heat and set aside to cool.
You can refrigerate to cool it down faster. Once the mixture cools down – it should be fairly opaque but not too solid, remove from refrigerator.
Use a hand blender to whip the ingredients and slowly add the magnesium oil – add drop by drop as you whisk the ingredients.
Once you add all the ingredients, you can refrigerate for a few minutes and then whip again – cooling down makes whipping better.
Start the process again after the mixture cools down (for about 20 minutes) – you should whip the ingredients till they’re emulsified.
Once the ingredients combine fully, transfer to a sterilized jar and refrigerate. You can also store this in room temperature if you don’t prefer a cool rub.
Use as needed.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can add a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil or Winter Green Essential Oil or even Eucalyptus Oil, if you prefer a milder ingredient (ideal for sensitive skin).
You can use Coconut Oil or Olive Oil for this recipe, though I prefer Sweet Almond Oil as it improves the pain reduction property.
You can use emulsification wax, if you prefer it to beeswax for emulsification. Using emulsification wax makes the process easier, but I use beeswax because it is a natural ingredient.
If you don’t want to use both waxes, you can use Borax for emulsification. Try around to see what quantity works best for you.
How to Prepare Magnesium Oil?
You don’t have to buy Magnesium Oil. You can prepare it at home! For this recipe, you would need 8 Tbsp. Magnesium Flakes and 3 Tbsp. of distilled Water.
Bring distilled water to a boil. In another bowl, add the Magnesium Flakes.
When the water is boiling, pour it over the Magnesium Flakes.
Stir and when combined, set aside to cool down.
The resultant mixture will be a thick solution.
Note: You can also use this a spray for sore muscles, as is.
Shelf Life
It stays good for two months in room temperature and longer in refrigerator.
Why Use Magnesium Flakes?
Many of us are deficient in Magnesium – an important nutrient required by the body. The best part – it gets better absorbed through your skin, than when consumed internally.
Do you feel thirsty and never feel satisfied after drinking loads of water? It is probably because it is more to do with electrolyte deficiency – often, Magnesium!
Using this body butter will not only get rid of sore and tired muscles, it will also top up you magnesium levels! Isn’t that great?
Note: This body butter will tingle (sting, in most cases) even when you don’t use Wintergreen / Peppermint if you are deficient in Magnesium. Once that levels are balanced, the tingling sensation will considerably reduce.
Many who have issues using Magnesium in their bath or when consuming internally, can safely use this body butter without worrying about itching or burning. Don’t forget to patch test though!
