DIY Body Butter for Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, coming up with a suitable skin care aid is a challenging task. Here’s a quick and easy body butter that works like a charm for sensitive skin.

I prepare this recipe for my mother-in-law who has sensitive skin and doesn’t use a lot of products as a result. She loves this recipe and her skin is soft and smooth, needless to say younger looking!

Ingredients

Shea Butter – 30 Gms.
Sweet Almond Oil – 30 Ml.
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil – 25 Drops

Emulsification

Instructions

In a double boiler, melt the Shea Butter and Sweet Almond Oil.

Once they’re melted remove from heat and set aside for a few minutes.

Refrigerating is a good idea, though make sure it doesn’t become rock solid!

Add the melted mixture along with essential oil to your blender and whip for a few minutes in medium-high.

Once it is fluffy and light, transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

Shelf Life

I don’t refrigerate whipped butter, unless I really have to (extremely hot summers, etc.). Since we use oils and butter, it will last for a god six months or more – depending on the shelf life of the ingredients used.

How to Use the Body Butter?

Use a spatula remove required quantity from the jar and gently massage into your skin using circular motions with your fingers.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Kukui Nut Oil, Apricot Oil, Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil or even Coconut Oil instead of Sweet Almond Oil. I sometimes play around with different oils for variations and aroma.

You can use Lavender, Geranium, Tea Tree, Neroli or even Chamomile Essential Oils. Sandalwood Oil works too, but it can leave your skin high and dry, so check how that works for you before you dump that into the entire recipe.

As for body butters, Cocoa Butter or even Mango Butter can be used. I have tried Mango Butter with good results, though I don’t use Cocoa Butter all too often as it triggers breakouts sometimes.

You can pick and choose the different butters or oils and choose the essential oils around their aroma.

Why Use Body Butter?

It is a lush and rich way to care for your sensitive skin, moisturize and nourish it to look soft, smooth and silky. Now, who doesn’t love soft and silky skin?

This can also be used during winters to keep dry skin at bay, or as a night cream.

It keeps dryness and itching due to dry skin at bay, also forms a protective coating on your skin and keeps premature ageing skin signs at bay.
