DIY Moisturizing Lotion for Oily Skin

Moisturizing your skin is a very important part of skincare regimen. Many think oily skin does not need moisturizing or nourishing – EVERY SKIN, including oily skin needs nourishment and moisture. So, want to learn a simple and easy lotion that will work for oily skin?

Oily skin is when your skin secretes more sebum and leaves your face greasy or oily. Also, acne and pimples are a common occurrence with oily skin. But avoiding moisturizer will only worsen your skin, as without moisture your skin will secrete more oil to combat dryness. Excess oil secretion is often restricted to the T-zone, though for some it isn’t. A moisturizing lotion that will help curb or regulate oil secretion is a plus. Isn’t it? This is a very simple and easy recipe that works well for those with oily skin.

Ingredients

Peppermint Leaves – 2 handfuls
Beeswax – 3 Tbsp.
Oil – 12 Tbsp.

Instructions

In a cup of water, seep the peppermint leaves for a while. You can heat it to get more out of the leaves, especially if you use dried ones.

Melt the beeswax and oil in a double boiler and ensure there are no floating pellets.

Add the water to your blender and add a few drops of peppermint essential oil (optional) and blend on medium.

Now, slowly begin pouring the butter and oil mixture and continue blending till the ingredients are emulsified and combined thoroughly. This will take a few minutes.

The resulting lotion will be creamy and soft.

Transfer the lotion to a sterilized container and use as needed.

Coconut Oil

Shelf Life

You will get two cups of lustrous lotion. This will last for 3 months, though you can refrigerate if needed. You can add ½ – 1 Tsp. Vitamin E Oil for improving the shelf life. However, try and prepare a fresh every few months for better results. After all, it is a simple and straightforward process. Isn’t it?

Why These Ingredients?

Pepper Mint Leaves

You can use fresh or dried peppermint leaves for this recipe. Both work equally well. Peppermint acts as a toning agent for your skin and curbs oil secretion. It also helps combat acne and pimples, a reason this works well for those with oily skin.

Oil

Depending on what oil suits your skin, you can choose any oil. I recommend coconut oil, as it is affordable and suitable for all skin types. Besides, coconut oil is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, antimicrobial, rich in Vitamin E and is extremely moisturizing. It also helps curb excess oil products and burbs acne outburst. What’s not to like about it?

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Shea Butter instead of Beeswax though the texture will vary slightly.

You can use rose water instead of plain water, since it works as a toner.

You can add essential oils of your choice to improve the fragrance of the lotion, or skip them altogether. Peppermint has a rather warm and inviting aroma by itself!
