DIY Night Cream for Moisturization

Our body relaxes, rests and rejuvenates during the night – the same goes for skin too. That’s one reason why night creams are suggested for dry or dull skin. This is a simple night cream that will replenish lost moisture and luster.

You don’t really have to spend a fortune on night creams, they’re easy to make and do a wold of good for your skin. Ready to do a simple and quick one?

Ingredients

Olive Oil (Extra Virgin) – 120 Ml
Beeswax – ½ Tbsp.
Vitamin E Oil – 20 Drops
Coconut Oil – 1 Tbsp.

Cream 2

Instructions

In a double boiler, melt the beeswax and coconut oil. Remember, coconut oil solidifies in cooler climates, though it melts easily. When the beeswax and oil melt, remove from heat.

If you don’t have a double boiler, melt the beeswax and coconut oil using a makeshift or DIY double boiler – just place a shallow and wide pan on the stove with an inch of water. Now, place the beeswax and coconut oil in a smaller pan and place it in the water. Make sure the smaller vessel is seated or floating and the water doesn’t get into the ingredients.

Add Olive oil and Vitamin Oil and mix well.

Set aside to cool down.

Transfer to a sterilized container and use as needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

This recipe feels is creamy but not very oily. You can choose different carrier oils according to your requirements or preference. I picked Olive and Coconut Oil as this cream is intended for moisturization. You can also use Coconut Oil alone or use Sweet Almond Oil, if you are prone to acne.

You don’t need to whip the ingredients, though you can whip it if you want a fluffier and more manageable cream.

The cream isn’t lotion consistency and lasts longer, without or without Vitamin E Oil. However, if you prefer lotion consistency, you could add distilled water or Aloe Vera. I did not want emulsification so the recipe is easy and uncomplicated. But you can add that and go through emulsification process to hold the ingredients together – when adding distilled water or Aloe Vera.

I have not used any Essential Oil, though using essential oils like Lavender, Frankincense, Chamomile or Ylang Ylang can promote relaxation, which translates to better sleep. As a night cream, these are great additions.

How to Apply It?

Before you hit the bed, wash your face with lukewarm water and pat dry. Apply the cream in circular motions and use upward strokes. Apply for your face and neck and massage for a few minutes for better penetration and absorption.

With added relaxing essential oils your slumber will be peaceful and serene, you will wake up refreshed and rejuvenated!

What is the Shelf Life?

The shelf life is purely dependent on the ingredients, though it lasts good for a year or more. However, don’t keep it for more than six months when adding distilled water or Aloe Vera Gel or Juice. If it is not entirely oil based, it is a good idea to keep it refrigerated if you are staying in tropical countries.

Why Use Night Cream?

Night creams are suggested when your skin is dry, dull or undernourished, or shows premature ageing signs, etc. Basically, a night cream is for replenishing lost moisture and restoring one’s skin. However, there are different types of night creams with different purposes – rejuvenation, anti-aging, sleep-aid, moisturization, detox, skin repair, etc. We will be adding more recipes to suit different skin types and purposes soon. Stay tuned!
