DIY After-Shave Spray

An after-shave spray is more than just a grooming accessory. It’s prevents infections after a shave incase of any nicks or cuts, and also soothes the skin.

All the after-shaves we find on shelves are often loaded with toxins and chemicals and hardly do any good. I was finally tired and wanted to prepare a good one for my man. Now, after-shave is really easy and I tried different variations before settling for this one.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Vitamin E Oil is optional. You can skip if you don’t prefer it or are allergic to it.

Essential Oil is a matter of choice and preference too – choose the ones you like, as long as they antimicrobial properties, is soothing and healing, you are all set.

Use organic ingredients for the best results.

Why These Ingredients

We all know Witch Hazel can do wonders for controlling and preventing Acne & Pimples. But do you know it is also a very good soothing ingredient, can be used to clean wounds, seals in moisture, and reduces puffiness of skin. It also has a very mild but good aroma. It will leave your skin feeling smooth, clean and refreshed.

We have already discussed about Jojoba Oil a lot. It’s a wax in oil form and one of the closest ingredients to our skin’s serum. It is suitable for all skin types and is readily absorbed by our skin. It is nutrition rich and a good moisturizer for your skin.

Glycerin is a clear winner and can be swapped for alcohol in a lot of recipes. It is moisturizing, soothing and nurturing, leaving your skin soft and supple. It has a shorter shelf life, so prepare smaller batches or use Vitamin E Oil for extending shelf life. Besides, Vitamin E Oil is an excellent ingredient for skin all on it’s own and anti-ageing. What’s not to like about it?

I have chosen Tea Tree Oil, Cedarwood and Peppermint for their properties, though you can go with essential oils with similar properties. Also, these three oils work well for men and as an after-shave the aroma is manly. However, like every other recipe play around with your essential oils and identify what aroma you like on your man 😉 that’s the fun part right?
