DIY Bath Salt for Relaxation and Pain Relief

Warm bath does a world of good besides just relaxing you. Aches and pains are gone, cold and flu can be made tolerable and more.

Depending on what you throw in your bath, you can battle cold and flu more effectively and come out of it faster. There are different ways to make your bath salt and tweak to suit your needs. I wanted a bath salt that’s relaxing and soothes tired and aching muscles as we run around a lot during festivities.

Generally, a good bath salt that’s easy to make and can be tweaked can be made with Epsom Salt, Baking Soda and Sea Salt in the ratio of 2:1:2. The minerals from the salts are absorbed into the body to soothe your skin and ease muscle stiffness and aches. You can more ingredients to this, spruce it up with essential oils and whatnot.

Like mentioned earlier, I wanted something that relaxes me and uplifts my moods to combat mod swings. I choose invigorating and refreshing Citrus Oils with a combination of Cedar wood and Birch for this purpose. Let’s get started, shall we?

Ingredients

Sea Salt – ½ Cup
Citriodara Oil – 7 Drops
Cedar Wood Essential Oil – 5 Drops
Birch Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Geranium – 2 Drops (Optional)
Baking Soda – ¼ Cup
Epsom Salt – ½ Cup

Instructions

Add the soda and salts you’ve chosen to a mason jar.

Add in the essential oils and shake well.

Done!

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use other salts too – Red Sea Salt, Black Salt, Dead Sea Salt, etc.

You can use Magnesium Flakes instead of or along with Epsom Salt.

Essential oils can be chosen according to your preference and requirement. Here are few blend options you can consider:

Eucalyptus and Peppermint – For cold, flu, sinus, body aches and for instant prepping up.

Lavender and Ylang Ylang – Relaxation and Stress Relief

Rose Geranium + Roman Chamomile – Soothing

Citrus Essential Oils – Refreshing and Invigorating

Peppermint, Clove, Hyssop – For aches and pains

You can also add Menthol or Thymol salts to the bath salt instead of adding essential oils, especially if you’re looking for uplifting aroma and relief from cold, flue, aches, pains and soreness or stiffness.

How to Use the Bath Salt?

You can add anywhere from 4 – 8 Tbsps. for your bath and give it a good mix to combine and dissolve before you soak in.

Shelf Life

Bath salts last long, as long as you protect them for direct sunlight and moisture. Go with the expiry date of the ingredients you add and make sure to mark the dates when preparing your batch. The one here is a small batch, but you can also prepare larger batches and store.
