With Holiday season fast approaching, it’s time to plan for gifts and start getting ready for the holiday season.
I decided to make a lot of Pumpkin Spice Inspired DIY Gifts for my friends for the festive season. So, first in the line of my gifts I have chosen – Lip Balm ☺
I wanted my lip balm to be nourishing, moisturizing but also be a reminder of the holiday season. I also wanted to add some shimmer and glitter to mark the festivities. So, let’s get started shall we?
Ingredients
Pumpkin Seed Oil – 50 Ml
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.
Beeswax – 25 Grams
Shea Butter – 10 Grams
Olive Oil – 50 Ml
Macadamia Nut Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Pumpkin Spice – 1 ½ – 2 Tsp.
Golden Mica – as needed
Instructions
If you have Pumpkin Spice Powder already, use it. Otherwise, you can prepare it in this ratio – 4:2:1:0.5 for Cinnamon, Ginger, Clove & Nutmeg Powders respectively.
Melt Beeswax and Shea Butter together. When it is melted remove from heat.
Add in the oil (Pumpkin Seed Oil, Olive Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil and stir to combine.
Once the butter, wax and oils are mixed thoroughly, add the Pumpkin Spice Powder and Mica.
Let it sit for a few minutes to cool down a little.
Transfer to lip balm dispensers and let it set.
Done!
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You also use Pumpkin Spice Extract instead of the Pumpkin Spice Powder to make the job easier.
You can any shade of Mica – Silver, White, Red, Pink, Copper, Brown, Maroon, Wine, etc. This will add shimmer and sheen to the lip balm – you can add less or more according to your preference.
If you want to go bold, add Glitter instead of or along with Mica. I wanted just a touch of sheen and not garner attention with bright or shiny lips – more like a balm than a gloss 😉 so chose golden. I usually go with brown though. It looks natural for most part or berry. What’s your favorite?
You can use any carrier oil or even animal fats including ghee, butter, lard, lanolin, tallow, etc. I have used a combination of Pumpkin Seed Oil, Olive Oil and Macadamia Nut Oil. But anything that’s available and suits you best – are what will make ideal ingredients for you. For gifting go with neutral ingredients or hypoallergenic ingredients – I always ask about allergies before preparing stuff for my friends.
You can use Cocoa Butter instead of Shea Butter – in fact, Cocoa Butter combines well with this recipe. You could take Beeswax down a notch if you’re using Cocoa Butter.
You can use any essential oil or other fragrances of your choice – Vanilla, Coffee, Bubble Gum, Apple Pie Spice, Tea Masala, Gingerbread Spice, Spice Drops, Cinnamon Drops, etc.
Shelf Life
The lip lasts more than a few months – go with the shelf life of the oils and ingredients you are using. Depending on the ingredients, it can last a year. However, being lip balm, I recommend smaller and fresher batches every 3 months.
