DIY Shimmering Lip Gloss – Bright Red

Time to rock the Ruby Red Lipstick? Let’s get it prepared, shall we?

Red Lipstick goes well for certain occasions and looks. Though it is not a color I wear regularly, I like to wear it from time to time. I have heard it looks really good when coupled with winged eyeliner, and red is favorite lip color for night outings.

Having that said, let’s take a look at how to prepare our lipstick and move from there.

Ingredients

Red Mica Powder – 1 Tsp.
Castor Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Beeswax – a few pellets
Cocoa Butter – ¼ Tsp.
Coconut Oil – ½ Tsp.
Vitamin E Oil – a few drops

Instructions

Take the Castor Oil and add the Mica Powder to it.

Mix to combine – there shouldn’t be any streaks of color, just a uniformly combined mixture.

In your double boiler, melt together Beeswax, Cocoa Butter and Coconut Oil.

When fully melted, stir in the Mica mixture and stir to combine.

When fully combined, pour it to a lipstick dispenser and set aside.

It takes a few hours for the lipstick to set – you can also use a lip balm or lip-gloss dispenser.

You can refrigerate to accelerate the setting process.

Done!

Who Can Wear this Lipstick?

Anyone with neutral skin undertones can wear this lipstick. It suits everyone – when is red not anyone’s color?

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

If you use Lip Balm, take a small dollop of your lip balm, add in Castor Oil and Mica Powder and you can prepare your own LipStick in few minutes 😉

You can use Coconut Oil instead of Castor Oil, or even Olive Oil or other carrier oils.

Vitamin E Oil is optional, but I love that it adds shelf life while also making my lips soft and moist.

If you like Shea Butter better, you can swap it for Cocoa Butter. You might need a tad more than Cocoa Butter though.

You can use any color pigment of your choice, though I have gone with red here.

You can add a pinch of Iron Oxide Pigments to make the color more intense – Red Iron Oxide and a pinch of Black Oxide would make this red a tad darker – ideal if you are not a fan of devil red.

This is a shimmering lipstick. If you are not a fan of Shimmer, skip the Mica and opt for Iron Oxide pigments instead.

If you want a matte finish, skip Mica and swap it for Iron Oxide Pigments and also, add a dash of clay.

You can add one or more pigments to get a different color, or add a twist to the resulting color.
