DIY Creamy Concealer

So, I wanted to prepare a creamy and light concealer that works and doesn’t look greasy.

I have used my fair share of concealers. While I loved how liquid concealers can be lighter than say concealer sticks, they were quite messy to apply for me. I later realized it is more to do with the application method and other factors. That aside, so I wanted a concealer that will give me coverage, is easy to apply and doesn’t look greasy even though it looks more like lotion in texture.

So, here’s what I came up with.

Ingredients

Shea Butter – 2 Tsp.
Aloe Vera Gel – 2 Tbsp.
Bentonite Clay – 1 Tsp.
Moroccan Red Clay – 1 Tsp.
Emulsifying Wax – 1 Tsp.
Jojoba Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Vitamin E Oil – a few drops.
Witch Hazel – 2 Tsp.
Titanium Dioxide – 4 Tbsp.

Instructions

Melt Shea Butter in a make-shift double boiler.

When it begins to melt, add Emulsifying Wax and Jojoba Oil.

When fully melted, add in Aloe Vera Gel and Witch Hazel and let them combine.

When fully combined remove from heat.

Now, add in Vitamin E Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Moroccan Red Clay and Bentonite Clay – add Moroccan Clay slowly, so you can stop when you get the right shade.

When mixed thoroughly, transfer to a sterilized jar after ensuring you got the shade right – apply a small dollop on your forehead or inner arm to check.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Alter the ratios to get the desired consistency. I prefer a lotion like consistency and go with less Shea Butter and more oils and aloe gel in that case.

The clays give you more coverage and ensure the finish isn’t greasy. However, it also add tint to the recipe, like Red Moroccan Clay, where it can give a light brown to dark brown or red tint to the recipe. Choose the clays according to your skin tone, type and requirement. It is optional – you can skip clays if you want.

Titianium Dioxide gives coverage and sun protection. However, Zinc Ozide works equally well. Ensure you get non-nano whether you opt for Zinc or Titanium.

How to Use the Concealer?

Apply where you need to hide simple blemishes and marks and step out in style. I like to use the makeup sponge for applying the concealer, though brush works too.

Depending on the shade you go with, you can also use it as a highlighter.

Shelf Life

Since we don’t add preservatives, keep it refrigerated. However, you can also add a preservative that’s natural.
