DIY Night Cream for Combination Skin

When you have combination skin and want to prepare creams or butters, it is quite tricky. However, I have cracked the code for a night cream that works well and doesn’t trigger breakouts or leave skin oily.

Basically, I wanted something that will keep ageing skin signs at bay, reduce and also, keep my skin healthier. I wanted it to nourish, moisturize, heal and rejuvenate my skin. After all, if you want to botox-free beauty, anti-ageing natural products are one way, right?

I love to prepare my own skincare products whenever I can, as I can keep it natural and fresh.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients first.

Ingredients

Kukui Nut Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Camelina Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Watermelon Seed Oil – 1 Tsp.
Shea Butter – 1 Tbsp.
Candelilla Wax – 1 Tsp.
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.
Geranium Essential Oil – a few drops

Instructions

In a double boiler, melt the Shea Butter and Candelilla Wax.

When fully melted, add Camelina Oil, Kuki Nuter Oil, Watermelon Seed Oil and Vitamin E Oil.

Once combined, remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Once the mixture cools down, add it to your blender and whip on mediu-high.

When the mixture is almost whipped, add the Geranium Essential Oil and continue to whip.

When the cream is fluffy and ready, transfer to a sterilized container.

How to Use the Cream?

Apply this every night after cleansing your skin before hitting the bed.

I suggest massaging for a few seconds after application for best results. Make sure to keep the motions – upward strokes and not downward.

Why These Ingredients?

We’ve added a combination of exotic ingredients for this night cream. But if you want to swap them for other ingredients that are locally available, or affordable with similar profile, feel free to do that. Now, let’s learn more about our ingredients and why we use them here.

Kukui Nut Oil

Kukui nut oil is obtained from the Kukui Nut Tree, also called Candlenut Tree. It is very common as massage oil but offers numerous benefits to hair, skin and health. Rich in mono and poly-saturated fats and antioxidants like Vitamins D, E and C, it works wonders for dry skin, skin disorders like Eczema, ageing skin, etc. It is not only moisturizing, but also healing and can prevent ageing skin signs and blemishes effectively.

Camelina Oil

Camelina oil is obtained from the seeds of Camelina sativa and has a stable shelf life. Rich in omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and Vitamin E, it is a great moisturizer and prevents damage due to free radicals.

Watermelon Seed Oil

High in unsaturated fatty acids, it can hydrate the skin but suitable for all skin types and is absorbed by the skin readily. Rich in antioxidants, it is anti-ageing and is widely sought for the same.

Candelilla Wax

A shiny hard wax, Candelilla wax is an emulsifier, skin conditioner, stabilizer and also a cosmetic astringent.

We have already written a lot about Shea Butter and Geranium Essential Oil. They’re again the best anti-ageing ingredients out there, while Geranium gives a nice aroma too.
