DIY Kajal for Healthy & Stunning Eyes

We’ve already seen two ways to make Kajal. Here’s another option you can try.

For those who don’t want to use Almonds, due to Nut Allergy or Budget, or whatever reason, this is another option.

Ingredients

Sandalwood Powder – 1 Tsp.
Castor Oil – As Needed
Ajwain / Caraway Seeds – 3 – 5
Wick / Cotton
Cow’s Ghee

Instructions

Prepare a paste using Sandalwood Powder and water.

Now, dip the wick or cotton into the paste and wait till it soaks up the paste to it max.

Let it dry and the repeat the process again, till it has absorbed to its full capacity.

Once that’s ready, you are ready to start with the process.

Wrap the Caraway Seeds in the Wick or Cotton.

Now, place the wick in a copper or clay lamp.

Pour Castor Oil – fill about ¾ of the lamp.

Place the lamp in a secluded spot – where you won’t tap it or stumble upon it while walking. Then, place two placeholders adjacent to it on either sides (taller than the lamp).

Place an inverted copper or silver or stainless steel plate on the placeholders and light the lamp – this way, the soot will collect on the plate surface.

Wait till the lamp burns out.

Allow the plate to cool down, as it will be extremely hot to touch.

After it cools down, use a spoon or a knife to scrap out the soot that’s collected.

Mix pure cow’s ghee to it to make a paste and store in a sterilized jar.

How to Use It?

You can collect the soot and keep it powdered form, mixing up the paste in smaller quantities. This way, you can use ghee, castor oil, almond oil or other options and see what works for you best.

Also, you can use this as your charcoal for Mascara or Eye Brow Fill, etc.

Shelf Life

The Kajal lasts for six months, or more. However, I recommend preparing fresh batches every 2 – 3 months, or if the texture or smells turns funny.

How to Use It?

Apply using your eye liner brush, or your fingers. Use clean and dry fingers or spatula to remove the Kajal from the jar.

You can also the powder for your eyebrow fill, mascara, eye shadow, etc.

Store the Kajal in a silver jar, if possible. Copper comes next, if not stainless steel. Don’t use plastic or other material – stick with glass if you don’t have the above given options.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Castor Oil or even Ghee to burn the lamp. Both work well.

You can use Ghee, Almond Oil or even Coconut Oil to prepare the Kajal using soot.

You can add a small piece of camphor to it, or use the camphor while lighting the lamp.

Try this and keep us posted with your results and tweaks. There are many different ways to prepare Kajal / Kohl. As prmised, we will be adding them here. Don’t have time for DIY Recipes? Try Gaya Cosmetics for your Beauty Requirements.
