Coconuts are a great skin and hair care aid and can be used in different ways and recipes for numerous benefits. There are different ways to prepare coconut cream.

This is by far the easiest way to do it and we get the nutrients as they are. There’s no cooking involved, so less work. Want to know how to do it? We’re going to learn how to get the Coconut Cream and then move to how all it can be used.

Ingredients

Coconut
Lemon

Instructions

Scrape the coconut and set aside. If you are using dry coconut shredding then you have to add warm water to it and let it sit for a few minutes – till it becomes soft.

Add enough water to the coconut scrapping and grind in your mixer. Filter using cheesecloth to get thick coconut milk. If you using dry coconut flakes, you can follow the same procedure after it is soaked.

We need only the first thick milk for the recipe, though you can store the second milk or use it for other purposes.

Now, transfer the coconut milk to a mixing bowl – stainless steel or glass.

Squeeze juice from ½ lemon and add to the coconut milk, stir to combine and set aside.

Refrigerate for an hour or so. When you remove it from the fridge the mixture that was originally thick but a liquid, would have turned into a creamy mixture – akin to that of Yogurt.

Mix using a spatula and transfer to a sterilized canister and use as needed.

Voila!

What is this Cream Used for?

You can use it to remove makeup, moisturize and nourish your skin, soothe your skin or just pamper it!

You can use it for a lot of hair and skin care masks and scrubs.

You can use it in several DIY Recipes including hair straightening creams – mind you – this is a very good hair straightener!

It also promotes skin repair and rejuvenation – making it an ideal skin rejuvenator to combat ageing skin signs.

There are different ways to get coconut cream, including another variation where no cooking is involved, but lemon juice isn’t either! The variations are due to one’s preference or the purpose it is used for.

You can also add this to your bath like Yogurt, or use it as a cleanser like you would use Yogurt, or add it to your scrubs or natural cleansers like Chickpea Flour or Green Gram Flour.

Shelf Life

It lasts a good one-week in the refrigerator, so prepare smaller batches and use as needed.

However, the cream doesn’t go waste as you can also use in a lot of curries, gravies and recipes that call for Yogurt. I like to call this Coco-Yogurt considering we use citric acid in this recipe.

This is a very popular skin and hair care aid in the Asian countries, so give it a try and see how you like it. After all, if you don’t like it for your skin it can go into different recipes and add a unique and rich flavor to them.
