Feel like pampering your skin? How does a refreshing and luxurious body butter sound like? Here’s a body butter recipe you can try at home – enjoy the spa experience at your home for a fraction!

Ingredients

Coconut Oil – 6 Tsps.
Cacao Butter – 4 Tsps.
Orange Essential Oil – 5 Drops
Vitamin E Oil – 5 Drops

Coconut Oil

Instructions

Coconut Oil is often solid in room temperature, unless you live in tropical countries. So, melt the cacao butter and coconut oil in a double boiler. Don’t have a double boiler – it’s easy to do a makeshift one! Just place a shallow pan and add water for about 1”. Now, place the coconut oil and cacao butter in a smaller bowl and place it in the water. When the water begins to heat, the butter and oil will begin to melt. Remove from flame and set aside. I don’t recommend direct heating, though many melt it using low flame directly. You can do that if that works for you…

Wait till the temperature drops and it is almost lukewarm. Add the Vitamin E oil and essential oil.

Use a handheld blender and whip the ingredients, you can also use an electric blender for whipping.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

How Long Does it Last?

It lasts for a good few months, though I haven’t kept this for more than 5 months. Since we add Vitamin E Oil it will last longer, but am not sure. Also, this is purely oil based and the shelf life is according to the ingredients you have used. If you swap any oil or butter, check the shelf life and calculate accordingly. However, I usually prepare a fresh batch every month or two. I also change the fragrances according to my mood and requirements, even the ingredients to get a different fragrance and butter every time ;). Doesn’t hurt – does it?

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Since this is body butter, I have used Cacao Butter. You can also use Shea Butter or any other butter that you prefer better. If you have body acne, use Shea Butter or other lighter and non-comedogenic butters.

You can use any essential oil you prefer, I used Orange Essential Oil because it is refreshing. You can pick whatever you have, or like instead. I use Peppermint when I want a quick pick-me up, or Tea Tree Oil because it helps with acne, or Lavender because it is soothing, etc. Whatever works for you is good – how can DIY recipe be exciting if you can’t tweak it for your requirements, preferences or fantasies ;)?

You can also use other oils like Sunflower Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Apricot Oil, etc., depending on your preference and requirements. I picked coconut oil because it suits most skin types, affordable and readily available.

This is a very simple and quick recipe, though you can make changes add more ingredients according to your requirements. I have kept this recipe simple and easy for amateurs and working women who don’t have time.

How to Use It?

After a refreshing bath, slather the body butter for replenishing lost moisture for soft and supple skin! I generally apply it gently in circular motions for a relaxing experience.
